Review

I'm an African American middle age woman and I was very impressed with Stephen Mitchell's book, War With The World:The Teenage Battlefield. I enjoyed the book because I have a teenage son and when I was reading the book I was so impressed with how Stephen connected the words in his book with life today. He was so up to date with what the teenagers deal with everyday and he made the book interesting to read. My son, who read the book, could not put it down because he knew that world. Some books that adults write for kids go back to our time and the kids cannot connect with it and they get bored with the book. But how can you get bored with Stephen's book when everything he wrote in the book are about things kids are doing and are involved in today. Stephen was connected to their world. My best part of the book were the Bible verses that help you understand what he was saying in Biblical terms. My son enjoyed reading the book and looking up the verses as well. I so look forward to Stephen's next book. God bless you -Tracey, 38 . --glorioushopepub.com

Throughout my life and my path and my walk in Christianity/God, I have took some time to read spiritual books by many different authors. As I read some of these books, I started but never finished. I couldn't finish because these books didn't grasp my full attention. When I started reading Pastor Stephen Mitchell's book, War With The World: The Teenage Battlefield, I started to realize that this book does and will grasp your full attention. It gives you realistic examples of what goes on in, just about every teenager's life. It has related to my own life in areas where I have gone through that and made it through. For all other teenagers, I would recommend this book not only for a spiritual walk with God, but to relate to your life with the choices that others have gone through having to make. You will learn many things in your life and will be faced with a lot of obstacles. The only way to get through it safely and happily is with God by your side. This book will change your life and possibly start a new one. -David, 18 --glorioushopepub.com

War With The World: The Teenage Battlefield is a life changing book! It definitely changed my life miraculously. I think it will change and improve many teenagers outlook on their lives. And it will help them create a real relationship/friendship with Jesus Christ. Pastor Steve words everything in a way that shows he truly understands what it's like to be a teenager in today's world, and the many obstacles we have to face and overcome. He uses real life situations that help you understand. After reading this book, I felt like I could overcome and take on anything that came my way. This book showed me how important Jesus is and how important it is to always keep him in your heart. My relationship with Jesus is incredible now, because of Pastor Steve's book. It touched my heart. I literally could not put the book down! I hope it does the same for everyone else who reads it. Honestly, this was the best book I have ever read!! It had a huge impact on my life. Jesus should always be #1 in your heart. This book was phenomenal-read it and you will see for yourself! -Jamie, 16 . --glorioushopepub.com

About the Author

Pastor Stephen J. Mitchell is a 25 year old Youth/Associate Pastor at Trinity Bible Church, a non-denominational church in Severna Park, MD. Pastor Steve gave his heart and life to Christ at age 12 following a Billy Graham crusade, and felt a strong calling to be a Pastor in his early high school years. Pastor Steve went on to Valley Forge Christian College, where he graduated in 2007. During his college years, Pastor Steve felt burdened about the intensity of the spiritual conflict for today's teen and the need to equip today's Christian teens with God's Word in a relevant way. Pastor Steve leads a weekly youth ministry called The Refuge, which seeks to create a loving relational atmosphere for teens to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Pastor Steve lives in Severna Park-MD with his beautiful wife Cass.

Format: Paperback
While local retailers are chock full of countless day-by-day devotionals that offer encouragement but little in the way of "how to apply it to my life," it's nice to find a book that breaks free from the pre-fab mold we often see, one that stands out because it is truly unique. Even a few pages into "War With the World: the Teenage Battlefield," you can't help but notice and appreciate how refreshingly honest it is. Mr. Mitchell speaks words of truth with a strong ability to connect to real-life needs, words borne of his own experiences that are reinforced by the deep and staggering truth of the Scriptures. As an author, his style of penmanship is warm, insightful, and conversational; you can really dig into this stuff because he speaks from his heart, and he takes the time to show he understands what you may be going through. Flat out, he is, without a doubt, totally in touch with the needs, worries, and challenges facing young people today. As I made my way through the book, chapter by chapter, I found it thought-provoking for sure, but I also felt my emotions stirred very frequently. The book hits us where it counts, because it aims to deal with life as it really is. The beauty is that Mr. Mitchell proves able to affirm our natural feelings about struggles we have, and yet then to reveal a greater truth, by turning to powerful examples found in the Bible. The book is particularly helpful because it covers such a substantial range of topics, all of which are highly relevant to the journey a teenager finds him or herself on. One thing that is certainly true of faith (and something this book helped me to see more clearly) is that the battle for our souls rages constantly, and temptation turns up at nearly every corner.Read more ›

I recieved this book as a gift on my 17th birthday last year. As a mild Christian who had barely opened the Bible (let alone a book about Christianity) before then, I didn't expect this book to exactly "hit home" with me. Well it did. As soon as I started from page one, I couldn't place WWtW down until I had finished reading about the author in the back. I was impressed that someone in this day and age could touch base with modern teenage society and essentially "mould" the Bible into everyday events.
WWtW takes the reader on a journey through the toughest parts of their life: school, family matters, social events, and even the sexual battlefield fighting it out with kids today. The author connects with the teenage reader one-on-one through these pages, opening up a point of view that was shared by one man thousands of years ago. A teenager, once introverted and self-conscious before reading this book, will learn to open up and feel a sense of belonging in the world. I can personally say that I was that shy, self-loathing teenager once, but now I know I am loved through God's eyes.

Even if the reader doesn't believe in the "Creator," they could not possibly deny that this book has given them a sense of self worth and understanding of the "teenage battlefield" out there these days.

This book had literally made me laugh, cry, and experience all other emotions inbetween. I have never been stronger in my religion now thanks to this book. I highly recommend War With The World: The Teenage Battlefield to anyone seeking to understand God's inner workings, and to those teenagers who seek knowledge on how to fight in the "war" around them.

Pastor Stephen Mitchell's "War with the World: The Teenage Battlefield," is an encouraging, timely, and informative essay on our culture and what teenagers deal with in society today. Its humbly written in a way that speaks to its audience: The youth of today. This isn't another self-indulgent, judgmental of dos and donts. Pastor Stephen has a heart for reaching our lost nation (especially the voice of tomorrow) and it is displayed beautifully within "War with the World's" pages. In 33 short chapters, Stephen tackles difficult issues every teenager deals with. Issues like insecurity, peer pressure, depression, sex, religion, lust, substance abuse, homosexuality and evolution. Told through his own experiences and using the pop culture around us, Stephen connects with teens. The author never condescends its audience and speaks with a deep conviction. Whether your a Christian or not, this book is a positive influence in a negative state of affairs. If you're a parent, I highly recommend this book for your son or daughter. If you're a youth pastor, looking for a book to use for your small groups, try this book. Or if you're a teenager yourself, give this book a chance. It could change your life.
