8th album from these Washington D.C. cult rockers—hypnotic, opium-dripping, psychedelic
stoner rock with some ultra-trippy guitar licks. Undulating, float-by songs that you can sink into
with a lit joint—and come out the other side, frazzle-brained & glassy-eyed with a huge, head-
nodding smile. The tunes often lope along with an irresistible, riveting nonchalant attitude of
druggy, mesmerizing & rootsy desert-soaked fuzz with integrated acid-sting guitar riffs that echo
through eternity. “Warble Womb” continues the band’s move toward more song-oriented
material, resulting in an album that feels almost conceptual in the nature of its dreary-drone
heaviness. At 71 minutes long it may not be a knock-out punch, but when the fight is over you’ll
be on the floor, looking up at the sky and begging the stars for one more mystic kiss of the rock.
Sometimes recalls Psychic Ills, Bevis Frond, Jimi Hendrix, the Black Angels, Arthur Lee, Wooden
Shjips, the Entrance Band, Nebula.

the first time i saw DM perform was in 2006 when i went to see wolfmother, and they were an opening act. i was impressed. i haven't missed a performance in my city since that 2006 show. i have bought all of their studio recordings and there are times during the year when i need an extensive fix of DM music. this new record, for me, is amazing. i can't stop listening to it ... there are 3 songs which, i so far, keep skipping over (songs 3,4,5, and 9(only because the mood of the song9 sounds way too sad to me:))

They sound like a super psychedelic san francisco black sabbath ...

they need to tour more often ...

i favor the heavy, low - end stuff that DM has done so well in the past, so i have a bias here. however this is still worth getting if you like DM. if Shivering King... was influenced by Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, Warble Womb is influenced by Bob Dylan and John Denver. in my opinion it never really gets off the ground and soars like their previous albums, but that doesn't keep it from being enjoyable.

Although this album contains no shortage of the riff-heavy, psychedelic blues rock that is the band's trademark, there is a marked difference in that several of the songs incorporate unique melodies and rhythms unlike anything they've released so far. The song "Copper is Restless ('til it Turns to Gold)" was, in my opinion, particularly impressive with its dub overtones.
In sum, the band is moving in new creative direction (as all good bands should attempt to do) while maintaining the familiarity of their original sound. I am eager to hear what they come up with next.

It's been 5 years since the last proper studio release from Dead Meadow. 2008's Old Growth was a bit of a stylistic change for the band, transitioning from the stoner metal of the debut/Howls From The Hills and going into a lethargic chilled out vibe with Feathers and so forth. We managed to get a live album with a few new songs, but overall, it's been a long wait to hear some new Dead Meadow material.

Finally, in November of 2013, we got treated to this: A 70+ minute behemoth of an album. On this release, Dead Meadow captures everything from the past while still looking towards the future. You get the heaviness of the past, but there's also a rolling psychedelic haze throughout the whole record. Six To Let The Light Shine Thru is a fantastic opener, and I love the tremolo-ed guitars. We also have some female vocals as well. Other tracks like 1000 Dreams and This Song Is Over bring back the heaviness of Shivering Kings-era Dead Meadow. We also have some jangly songs like Yesterday's Blowing Back.

Overall, nothing too crazy, but a good progression for this band. Heavily recommended.
