To get the bad out of the way first, this book really could have used a good editor; there were a lot of typos and minor grammatical errors throughout. There were also points where it wasn't clear that a scene transition had taken place, or exactly where the characters were, until a later sentence noted it and forced me to reread the last few paragraphs in the context of what was actually going on.
That aside, this was a very enjoyable and relatively quick read--great for sitting in an airport terminal waiting for a flight that had been delayed for almost two hours. Aforementioned editing issues aside, I found it quite well-written with a lot of very cinematic descriptions that evoked clear and detailed imagery in my mind. Most chapters ended in such a way that I desperately wanted to know what would happen next. And I found the world building to be quite interesting.
All in all, a very good effort for a first novel and I look forward to reading the next one (which will hopefully be better edited).
