A little background: Back in 2008 I bought the two-story version of this cage. At the time it was marketed as a "Chinchilla starter set" and came with a few accessories. After my chinchilla died and I decided not to get another small pet, I sold my old rabbit cage and upgraded my bunny to the Ware chinchilla cage (which, again, is basically a two-story version of the cage for sale here). It is sturdy, easy to collapse and set back up, and I really liked the grated floor and sliding tray. All the way around, a totally solid and durable product that has served me and the rabbit well for several years.
I recently got a second rabbit, and my original rabbit is now very old and no longer uses the second story of his cage. So I put the new bunny in the "Chinchilla" cage and decided to get a new set-up for my geriatric bun. After much research, I decided to go with the Ware 30-inch cage, because I figured I knew what kind of quality I could expect.
I was wrong. This product is cheap and flimsy--not at all comparable to the supposedly similar product I bought from Ware in 2008. The grated wire floor is so thin and flimsy that my tiny old 3 lb. rabbit can't even stand on it without it bowing almost to the tray below. My rabbit was so scared walking on this unsteady surface that he clambered his way to his litter box and would not come out until I gave up and removed the wire floor the next day. Without the wire floor, the rabbit has to rest directly on the paper-lined tray below, which he hates because it is hard and slippery, and as aforementioned, he is about a million years old now and has a really hard time with certain things.
In the end, my rabbit--who has traditionally been allowed to free-roam during the day but always returned to his cage voluntarily to eat, drink, and use his litter box--hated this cage so much that he refused to go in any more than he absolutely had to, creating a new latrine space for himself on the rug and eating and drinking so little that I quickly realized I had to remove everything from his cage and make it accessible elsewhere.
The short version: This product is so flimsy that the floor was unable to comfortably support a 3 lb. rabbit. The quality is a far cry from what I have experienced with Ware in the past, despite the ostensible similarities between this and former products. For my rabbit, this cage has proved to be altogether unusable.
