I'm kicking a dead horse with this review.

I bought this because I was a big fan of Dark Age of Camelot. In the end, they tried to make a game more like WoW, and succeeded in many respects.

However, the game had a horrible bug when it was live. It locked in your contribution to public quests when you entered a zone. It didn't matter how hard you tried, you would NEVER get a high roll on endgame loot as long as you stayed in the zone. Hours spent with a 0% chance of payoff.

Dungeons were locked for a day or so once you played them, and there were very few. That means a property geared group would not play with you since they had their locked in group of regulars. The first required dungeon in the chain was full of all relatively low level monsters that were not fun to fight. This dungeon still required a large group of players to do to unlock the boss wings. Very obnoxious. I never was able to see the last couple dungeons.

The game degenerated into taking turns defeating the keep lords in the PvP zones and not actually PvPing. Guild Wars 2 kept this tradition. I have no idea why.

Needless to say unless you just want to play the last couple of months there is no point buying the game any longer. It wasn't a bad game, just not a great game and it wasn't programmed very well, even though it was developed over 5 years ago, many newer computers will still experience graphic slowdowns and freezes. Another problem is that I believe there are many more 40K fans than there are traditional Warhammer fans. Even when the game was being developed I felt this way. There is a new 40K game in development, Warhammer 40,000 Eternal Crusade, but we are probably at least a couple of years away and it is highly unlikely that there will be another traditional Warhammer game made anytime soon.

I was an original Warhammer player since day 1. I have got to say that this game has been absolutely fun to play. The tier system is great and the gameplay style is different than your average MMO. It incorporates several new things like public quests and stronghold sieges that I haven't really seen in other MMOs until this game came out. If you like Player vs. Player (PvP) then you will love this game. If you are not into PvP play you will still enjoy the rich Player vs. Environment (PvE) play, however I must warn you, this game might just make you love PvP. The crafting system leaves a lot to be desired, but overall I would say that it is a good buy. If you are not sure, then go to their website and download the free-to-play version and check out the 1st of 4 tiers. You will probably have fun, and don't be afraid to check out the PvP action. It is awesome!

Warhammer Online; Age of Reckoning, or WAR as they call it, is a pretty run of the mill elf and wizard fantasy MMO. What sets it apart is the Warhammer lore and the exellent focus on PVP (player vs player) or in this case rvr (realm vs realm). It is by far one of the better MMOs out there and probly the best in terms of pvp combat. It has many classes (careers) to choose from aswell as races and 2 different factions.

The gameplay is plenty fun and each class has a unique mechanic that sets it apart from others. The game has a polished focus on pvp that is considerably balanced. Despite this focus there is plenty to do outside of pvp and its not meaningless either, PQs (public quests) are open quests that let multiple players complete an objective and get good rewards from it. There are crafting professions and quests through out all tiers. You will even be rewarded for exploring the world with titles, acheivements and even items.

Unfortunately its not perfect, Lag is a serious issue on some servers and many servers are overpopulated by a single faction making pvp on those realms somewhat one sided.

If your looking for a good alternative to any MMO your playing or like pvp combat or even if your a fan of the warhammer franchise, definately check out this game.
