Quake (quake is better, but doesn't save progress)
COD (Warhawk is better action, & doesn't make you unlock stuff to compete on equal ground)
Battlefield (same as above)
Halo 3 and ' (worse action, but saves progress, better maps, better concepts)
The only shooters I enjoyed better than this were the old GC james bond, & Halo 1 & 2 (duelweilding is just 2 cool)

The important thing for parents to know is that this game can be played by their 9-year old. It has zero graphic violence. When a player is killed, their is no blood splatter or real-life death scenes. Basically, your guy just gets blown back a few yards. You don't have to worry about gratuitous language and never-ending trash talk. Turn off the headset and you're free from all that. You can also create your own games, where you have the option of limiting/ blocking chat and limiting the rank (for those just learning the game, to play against other new players).
For anyone who has played the online shooters, you know how aggressive everyone gets, especially towards the kids. This game is perfect for kids just learning shooter games, parents who don't want their kids playing the violent shooters, and families who want to play together (split screen).
(The sequel to Warhawk is being released soon. There is a beta for Starhawk currently being offered. It looks great, especially with the addition of being able to build inside the map during game play).
I highly recommend it and have suggested it to some of my friends that just got PS3's this past Christmas: They too have become big fans of this game. It may be one of the earlier PS3 games, but there is ALWAYS people online, all times of the day, so you don't have to worry one bit about not playing people to play (even at say 2 AM). The game has a strong community, even after two years, which is great. It simply wouldn't have that if it wasn't doing something right.
If you like combat games with vehicles, planes, tanks, etc. you will be in war-time bliss with Warhawk!
I was so excited to get this game but I played it for a day and now it sits there collecting dust.
