Nov 2014 Update: the opener has stopped working. So this one lasted 2 years It was great while it lasted but probably switching back to the rabbit.

This is a very nice looking product and seems well made. It comes with an opener (5 stars by itself), a pumper, 2 vaccum corks (for the pumper) and a foil cutter. The opener is fantastic. Just set it on the cork, hold the bottle and push the button. The electric opener does the rest. When the cork is out simply use the reverse button and out comes the cork. Set it back in the charging station and it will be ready to go again whenever needed. The other part of this set is a pumper. It seems to make a vaccum but nothing like we get with the hand pumper we have had for years. My pumper may be defective but I would suggest getting just the opener if it is available that way.

I bought a Rabbit electric wine opener and it was a dud, stopped working after a few pulls. Exchanged it for a second one and same thing happened again....urgh. Did some research and found this one--full of bells of whistles. Works great. No problems yet. Also, what is nice about it is that once the individual units are charged, it stops charging thus preserving the battery. The wine preserver is a nice touch and it stops me from drinking more often. :)

We purchased this about 18 months ago. Initially, it worked slick as a whistle -- opened wine bottle after wine bottle. I noticed one flaw early on -- it is difficult to accurately align the device with the cork to assure a straight entry. But the bigger issue is the battery life. After about a year, the battery does not charge with enough energy to open wine bottles. Unfortunately, the battery is unique and is hard-wired into the device, making it difficult if not impossible to change. I called Waring and they simply reiterated the one year warranty and told me that I am on my own. I am going to take the opener to Batteries Plus to see if they can change the battery. Unless they can change the battery relatively inexpensively, this device is a one-year wonder. Disappointing -- it's a great idea with a flawed execution.

Bought this as a gift for my husband's birthday. He LOVES the way the cork just slips effortless out and is easy to remove from the device. The vacuum doesn't do quite as good a job as the manually operated ones, but sure beats cranking away at them, especially when just one glass worth is left at the bottom. We never had a foil cutter, and now appreciate the good job it does with so little effort.

A year later and still works. It has opened more bottles than it probably should of. Very easy to use. I would recommend this even if you are technologically inept. It is super easy to use and you just have to hit reverse to eject the cork. No energy at all. Infact I had seen this in use at a large winery before I got it they were telling me how nice it was when you have to open over a hundred bottles in a weekend

I know that this is probably not an issue for everyone, but we love this Wine Center, with one exception. The two completely different units in this system look too much alike.

HOW THIS WORKS
You have a stand which plugs in. In the center is a place to put the foil cutter which is excellent, by the way. Then you have a spot for the corkscrew and another for the vacuum sealer. Those two spots allow these to recharge. There is also a spot for two re-useable rubber corks that will allow the vacuum sealer to withdraw air and keep the partial bottle of wine fresh for another day or two.

We don't leave the wine center up all of the time due to counter space issues. We charge the units and then put the whole thing in a drawer, grabbing what we need when we do. When it is time to recharge, we bring it out again.

PERFORMANCE
The corkscrew works great. The first time we used it, it seemed like it was struggling. But if you hold the bottle with one hand and keep the corkscrew going, you can tell when it is done. It slows way down and you stop. Then you press the opposite direction button and it withdraws the cork.

The vacuum sealer works well but is a bit on the weak side. You have to make sure it adequately removes the air from the bottle before you put it away. It is doable, just take an extra moment to be sure it worked well enough.

The first time you charge them, leave them in overnight. I was told that the lights go off when they are charged fully but we have yet to see that happen.

RATINGS
So far we really love the wine center. It is handy to have, with no problems so far (after a few months) and convenient to use too. At this point in time, I think it is worth five stars for us.

Have been in search of a stopper that will preserve champagne. This actually worked! First night I poured 2 glasses of champagne and then stopped the bottle and pumped it right away. I put it in the refrigerator immediately because a trick to keeping champagne bubbles is keeping it cold. 2 days later I pumped the top of it again without taking out the stopper. On the 5th day I opened the bottle the bottle and the champagne bubbles were just as frisky and alive as ever. I thought maybe once the champagne was poured it would go flat pretty quickly but it didn't. I am really impressed by this. I'm not sure how it would do if you opened it a second time and actually poured a glass and then stopped it up again. But it definitely lasted 5 days easily with just being opened once and repressurized once.
