This book tells the humorous love story between Vesa, a Raasa servant of Mikayla’s, and Ramar, one of the Warlords. The two had been together once before and while Ramar enjoyed himself, it was another story for Vesa. This stemmed from the different cultures in Kaban and Raasa, which was the first obstacle for the two to work through.
In the meantime, our other Warlords are present in the story, as well as the Overlord Vaan and his mate Mikalaya and their twins Arane and Erana. Someone has a grudge against Vaan and the disturbing turn of affairs resulting from that is a major part of the book.
What I really liked was that each of the major characters in the book are fully fleshed out so that a reader can feel their emotions right along with them. Ms. Howard skillfully interweaves the intersecting or simultaneous actions and reactions. The story grabs your attention right from the start and keeps it throughout the book. Although this is a stand-alone book, in order to better understand the characters, you might want to start with the first book in the series and read the next books in order. But — keep in mind that you don’t have to!
Another warlord bites the dust. I hope we get to see Vaan's family again in the next warlord's story. Highly recommended, if you haven't read the series, lucky you, you can have a readamarathon.
Thank you! Michelle Howard. Please keep on adding Vaan's family in your warlord's stories. Terrific story, really enjoyed it.
. It does help to read the series in order, and I do not look at the cost of her books. Enjoy.

Not much point in me yapping on I'll just say it wasn't to my taste.. I can't seem to warm to either race in this series
I really liked this filler story because, unlike the "happily after ever" (HEA) of fairy tales, this story reminds us that relationships (romantic, familial, friendships or political) are ongoing collaborations that require effort and compromise. This was a fun nudge to remind us that relationships evolve.
Meanwhile Vaan went into fenal mode because her youngling were kidnapped God have mercy on those bad guys because big daddy won't be...
Fast paced and exciting, also funny thanks to Shaina Area n's wife who wants to take one of the twins lol 5 stars for me xxx
