I freely admit, I was wrong. Jake has a story. Jake has unsuspected depths, a secret identity, and a cloak and dagger life his family knows nothing about.
The previous books have touched on their family history, but this final tale really delves into the story of their mother. Ms. Heath hits you with ALL the feels within the first few pages, immediately transforming the lazy, womanizing, gambling brother into a sympathetic hero.
Fliss, the heroine of the story is his perfect match. Her last name is Blunt, and it suits her. I enjoyed their banter, as he tried his wiles, and failed in the face of her bald-faced honesty. She discombobulated him, and frankly, he needed it.
In the end, Jake and Fliss do find their HEA. But first, they must deal with a secret government agency, various lowlifes, and find their balance as a couple, respecting each other's strengths and weaknesses.
A beautiful end to the series, and an exciting beginning to Virginia Heath's new upcoming series. Now that we have secret government agents, we have a whole new crop of heroes!
As the youngest Warriner brother, Jake is used to being a disappointment. While his three eldest siblings are working hard to restore their family’s less than salubrious reputation in Nottinghamshire and making great strides in their careers and in their personal lives, Jake is a devil may care rogue who spends his days living it up in London entertaining many a willing damsel in his bedchamber – or so everyone else thinks! What nobody knows about the young Warriner brother is that he is working on a secret mission that could see him catch the mastermind behind a nefarious smuggling ring that has the authorities stumped. However, this latest job is not your typical run of the mill assignment for in order to catch a criminal Jake must seduce the niece of the main suspect, a young girl fresh out of the schoolroom about to be launched into society: Miss Felicity Blunt. But little does Jake realise that Felicity is not an innocent schoolgirl, but a woman who is about to turn his entire life upside down…
Having been abandoned by her father after the death of her beloved mother, Felicity had been sent to a school in Cumbria where she had graduated to becoming a teacher at the institution she has come to call home. Perfectly happy being a single schoolmistress with all the freedom she desires and no man to impose upon her, Felicity is shocked when the uncle who has ignored her all her life turns up, telling her that he wants to take her to London for her first season, a promise he had made her mother on her deathbed. Although leaving her home and her friends behind is the last thing Felicity wants, she decides to acquiesce and heads off to London where she realises that far from being a generous and kind-hearted relation, her uncle has got his own evil plan for her!
Felicity is determined to enjoy the Season and to have plenty of adventures to tell her friends back in Cumbria. But she hadn’t counted on being swept off her feet by a dashing rogue who soon begins to haunt her thoughts and dreams: the devilishly handsome Jake Warriner! The charismatic and attractive rake seems intent on flirting with her at every opportunity, and despite her resolve not to give into her attraction towards him, Felicity quickly begins to fall in love with Jake. But is the youngest Warriner brother all that he seems? Is he merely a shameless flirt? Or is there more to him than meets the eye?
When Jake had set out to seduce Felicity, love had been the last thing on his mind. But the more time he spends with her, the more he realises that he cannot imagine his life without her. However, with so much at stake and so many obstacles to overcome, does their relationship stand any hope of surviving? Especially when Felicity learns the truth about Jake?
It is impossible to put down a historical romance by Virginia Heath and this exceptional writer of Regency romantic comedies has done it again with a gripping, poignant, engaging and thoroughly enjoyable tale packed with mystery, danger, smuggling, emotion, drama and romance. A Warriner to Seduce Her is an outstanding historical romance that will keep readers on the edge of their seats as they are plunged into a world spiced with danger and desire and liberally sprinkled with charm, wit and humour.
Virginia Heath’s characters never fail to jump off the page and straight into the reader’s heart and Felicity and Jake are certainly no exception. Felicity is feisty, intelligent and smart and rakish Jake is a wonderful hero guaranteed to make readers swoon.
The talented Virginia Heath has outdone herself once again and although A Warriner to Seduce Her is the last book in the Wild Warriners series, I am positive that she has more delectable treats in store for us with her fabulous series, The King’s Elite, coming in the autumn! I cannot wait!
Oh dear, what have I not already said about The Wild Warriners and the amazing Virginia Heath! Jake’s story is the fourth and alas last in this extraordinary series, and A WARRINER TO SEDUCE HER is just as brilliant as the three other books. The enigmatic Jake, who had been mostly relegated to the background before, is a deliciously charmer indeed! I am not giving any spoilers, but Jake the Rake’s occupation is what I had suspected. Ms. Heath’s writing sparkles, her descriptions shine brightly, especially in the case of the astonishingly entertaining Sawyer sisters, whose images are firmly imprinted in my mind forever. I thought it very clever how the author smoothly inserts some pertinent historical details into a conversation, which enables her to move the plot forward. Ms. Heath’s thorough research on smuggling, aided by her precise descriptions, all contribute to the realism of the story. Fliss is far from the retiring schoolmarm: she is rather cynical, has a poor opinion of men in general, and is far from gullible. I adored her immediately, Jake as well, but then again Virginia Heath always creates exceptionally appealing characters. And let’s not forget the scintillating dialogues; Jake has some of the best lines ever given to a male character. A WARRINER TO SEDUCE HER is exciting, filled with emotion, danger and romance that will take your breath away.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
