It's crazy how much the kids love this book series. As a parent I'm not a huge fan of them because of the false terminology. My son always calls kittens "kits" now and it took me a few talks with him to make him believe kittens are actually called kittens, and kits is a word used for the book. There are other words too, that's just an example. He also bases everything he knows about cats on what he's learned in these books. I know these books probably have a lot of information about cats, but they are in fact FICTION, so this makes me a bit nervous that he's developing this trust of gaining facts from fiction titles.
Also, he's a fourth grader but his reading level is at about 7th grade, and he doesn't want to advance from these easy reading chapter books that he's gotten stuck in along the way because he loves them so much. Fortunately we cut a deal that he picks a book and then I pick a book so on and so forth, and I've introduced him to other series that he's fallen in love with so the warrior books are a little less obsessive, but it still runs pretty deep. If I could go back in time I would have made sure he never found the series. There's something weird about how obsessive kids are with these warrior books.
I give this a four star rating because my son adores the books, but as a parent, the deep obsession, literally a craze, completely creeps me out.
