While their initial meeting is very short, an incident occurs that brings the two together again in a quest to save another human being. This journey, lasting several weeks, is how these two people from enemy lands begin their story- and what a terrific story it is!
The plot was enthralling and I couldn't put it down. It was filled with peril, romance, conflict, and even humor. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and also its colorful peripheral characters. I hope that several of these knights have stories of their own. I highly recommend this book to lovers of historical romance, romance, and knights- always the terrific knights.
After my first reading of "The Wolfe," I had to see if this was just a fluke and if the author, Kathryn Le Veque, was really that good. I went through all the books the author had written in record time. Yep. She was really THAT good! During my reading journey, I came to learn about all the houses and families that made up Le Veque World. So many books have generations that spring from early books, with names that have become so familiar. Each and every book was a joy to read. All of the characters, with heroes, the heroines, the supporting characters, quickly became familiar friends. I, quite simply, devoured them. I have read all of the books many times now. However, I always wanted to read about the origins of all those great houses in Le Veque World: De Wolfe, de Russe, de Lohr, Wellsbourne, de Lara, de Moray, de Reyne, de Winter, St. Hever and du Reims. And, just how did the de Shera brothers (The Lords of Thunder) have Roman ancestors and how did that figure into the big picture? This book has all the answers. And, those answers were beyond satisfying. They were spectacular!
I'm not going to do another synopsis of the book as it has already been done by those reviewers before me. I am simply going to say this. Warwolfe is must reading for any fan of Kathryn Le Veque. Warwolfe is must reading for anyone who loves a medieval romance for the ages. Warwolfe is must reading for anyone who loves adventure, mystery and history. Warwolfe is must reading for anyone who enjoys reading about loyalty and honor when it really meant something. Warwolfe is must reading for anyone who believes women are strong, incredibly brace in the face of mind-numbing fear, selfless, and warriors in their own right who can hold their own. Warwolfe is must reading for anyone who wants to read about a brave group of warriors who had a friendship and a bond unlike any other. As Kathryn Le Veque states "a true band of brothers."
Did I like it? Oh, no. I LOVED it!
I liked our H for the most part. He had 4 children with 3 different women (none of them were wives) and really didn't care about the women or the children and that held me back with thinking he was a fantastic Hero. Was he a great Military Man, yes, but not as a father.
There is violence, only one sexual encounter - outside marriage, and mildly described. This author doesn't focus on the the sexual part for her stories, just the men and women who are great character's with complicated stories. KLV captures all the warts and all of what pulls you into her stories. You can visualize the scenes the way she writes. That is why I have so many of her books, you get lost for a few hours of enjoyment.
The beginning was so unique that I fell into the story very quickly. I can't remember another novel where this author started out a thousand years in the future. No, it isn't a time travel story, which is my least favorite story lines to read. But it is about a women working on her PHD and doing research about the Battle of Hastings. Granted the part of the Knights is fiction, but it didn't feel like that reading it. I truly felt I was pulled into the story - fiction or not.
We do get HEA, as the author states it is a stand alone, even though we meet the many character's of her later novels, which was fascinating to me, being an avid reader of hers.
You always get your money's worth with this author and I encourage you read any of her stories, including this one. (ljb)

The characters and there personalities are so real and they are all so individual .I liken this to a really good steak ,you devour it , you savour it, and its the best youve ever had, then realize your nearing the end and your heart drops ,you need it to be more .It doesnt matter if someone gives you another steak , it will never be as good as you've just had .Thankyou kathryn it was brilliant
