While I had heard much about Ms. Fisher's article (no clue why I didn't get to it sooner), it definitely confirms my belief that the entire 1993 allegation was bogus and profit driven. Ms. Fisher delves into the backgrounds of both the accuser's father and his attorney Feldman. Feldman, like Conrad Murray, was up his ears in unpaid debt and judgments; the father, Evan Chandler, had various upset former patients hounding him, threatening lawsuits, and hated being a dentist, so who better to target for $ than (at the time) the most famous entertainer on the planet, Michael Jackson, who was known for his generous compassionate nature. Rothman, the attorney, had been disciplined by the California Bar for questionable practices, was behind on his own support payments, and there was a mighty long list of former clients who weren't very happy with him. The father, Chandler, hired a traveling "dental anesthesiologist" (who was later censured by the dental board (for different lapses)) to anesthesize the child so that nefarious false memories could be implanted, resulting in the 13-year old recalling events involving Michael Jackson that never occurred. Unimaginable, but not more so than this father's accepting money rather than proceeding with criminal charges if he truly believed his son had been "molested"! And nothing in the civil settlement prevented subsequent criminal prosecution. By that time, Chandler had received what he wanted all along, M O N E Y! Only wish I had read this article years ago. It's short, to the point, and while not eye-opening to those of us who have researched this matter, Ms.Read more ›

This reprint of a GQ article by Mary Fischer is about the Chandler accusations against Michael Jackson in the 1990s... a sordid story of money grubbing greed that, despite the title of this book-format reprint, threatened to, but didn't, bring down a superstar.

However, that the accusations impacted Michael's career and, especially, his health is obvious in retrospect. The fact that they also paved the way for the 2005 court case based on similar accusations by another family who took advantage of MJ's generosity is another reason why the truth needs to be told. And having been told, it needs to be re-told, until the most doubting and sceptical of MJ's critics finally accepts it.

What is the truth? Merely, that Michael Jackson was an extremely generous man who loved and wanted to help children, but who also could be very naive in terms of who was deserving of his help and trust. He believed in the innocence of children, seemingly without, in some cases, taking into account the selfish motivations of their parents.

This is just one piece of the much larger story of how greedy adults ruined nurturing relationships Michael Jackson had with their children - the kind of nurturing that saw others he mentored go on to have successful careers for which they have gladly given MJ due credit.

We know now that karma appears to have exacted its price on those responsible for the Chandler scandal... sadly Michael Jackson is no longer here in person to receive due benefit of the media's revisiting of the matter. At least the reprinting of Ms Fischer's article will help even in a small way to right some of the wrongs suffered by him for the sake of his children and his legacy, and also his millions of fans throughout the world. I can only hope so.

I didn't know much about Michael Jackson when all this awful stuff happened to him, so it was really good to be able to read this informative book about what happened, and to have his obvious innocence clarified!! I am sure lots of people already know about this GQ article, but very good to have it in book form, and for all those who don't know it, I sincerely hope they will read it and change their biased minds. It seems there are some 'honest' journalists out there, and I hope this book will inspire others to take a leaf out of Mary Fischer's book - pun intended!!

i read the GQ article and story back in 93 and i knew it was fishy always. the Man was so detailed and watched every aingle so i knew this was a set up to bring the man down. he was too powerful and a movement. they had to bring him down. a Black Man who came from the Hood and ended up having the world by the tail, yeah this story and book brings the truth back home and its a must read for anybody still who doesn't know the truth about the situation. This reprint from a much earlier Vanity Fair investigative article shows the counterpoint to what all the tabloids were pushing for $$$$ - that Michael was being extorted for money and that there was no truth to any of the allegations or tabloid fiction being printed. An important read for anyone still not quite sure about the 1993 allegations, or perhaps those needing real fact to back up their gut feelings of innocence. Reference this slim volume to those haters out there.
