Update Dec 26, 2014
I have contacted Wasabi about the problems I've had with the batteries. I was informed that they will replace them, but their policy is that after 30 days, I will have to pay $6 shipping for EACH battery replaced. So, that will come out to $12 in shipping for a purchase that was initially about $23. However, one of their service person, Terry, offered to ship them all 10 to me for one shipping charge of $10. I think they should cover the shipping charge because the batteries have a thee year warranty, but $10 isn't so much so I said to go ahead. I would have had a huge problem with the service if they wanted me to pay $60 in shipping for the 10 batteries. Terry was nice enough to offer me the discounted rate. Your mileage may vary it seems depending on who you talk to since their official policy is $6 per battery shipping charge.
Because of the $12 shipping charge that you may have to pay to have your batteries replaced if they go bad within the warranty period I still cannot recommend them. I will look elsewhere the next time I need batteries. If a manufacture warranties their batteries for 3 years, I feel they should replace it free of charge (including free shipping) if their product goes bad within that period. At the very least, they should state upfront that the policy is that the consumer must pay a $6 per batter shipping charge. My package of 10 batteries weight under 1 pound. To charge $60 in shipping wold have been criminal.
The batteries say "Premium cells from Japan" but are made in China. Who knows - they could say "NASA Mars Rover cells" or anything else for all you can tell. As noted, the cells don't have a chip so the camera won't show the level of charge. Mine charged for about 10 minutes each. Is that now a full charge? How long will it last? Who knows?
All-in-all, cheap and disappointing. Yes, Olympus should be ashamed for not suppling extra batteries of its own for so many months, but I'll use the Wasabi's only in an emergency and hope for the best.
UPDATED 9/18/12. After posting my original review, I received three calls from Blue Nook. Terry suggested an initial full discharge then recharge to condition the battery completely before use. He followed up a week later to see how that went. I had followed his suggestion and the batteries have performed well over several days of moderate shooting. Then I received a call from the President of Blue Nook. He noted the instructions are on the charger itself (although brief), and that they are working on a more complete set. He also assured me their charger will charge the Olympus OEM battery with no problems. This is good news because the Wasabi charger is smaller, lighter and plugs directly in without a cord. He further assured me the cells are made in Japan, and the batteries are marked "Made in China" to comply with import regulations (the China manufacturer encases the cells in the BLN-1 form, so you don't see the Japanese markings). He also stressed they have had no reported problems from shorting contacts due to the lack of a cap (we discussed this extensively), and their three year warranty (vs. one year for the Olympus) would cover any and all circumstances or conditions.
Given the real world performance of the batteries to date, and the level of concern and support from Blue Nook, I am much more confident in this product. It is a great price, it is available (Olympus is on perpetual back order), and shipping was prompt. Based on their customer service, they earned my trust and confidence. I still wish they were chipped so the camera reported the charge level, but they are evidently working on it, so 4 stars on the product overall, and kudos on their service
