When I get a new camera, I test out the battery life of each battery and write it with a china pen on the battery itself. This way, I absolutely KNOW how long each battery will last before I start using it for filming. I set the camera up filming a static scene with the monitor sleep mode turned off. My two Panasonic batteries lasted 120 minutes and 100 minutes - which is a bit less than I expected. But those batteries were used and maybe had lost some life along the way. Two of the Wasabi batteries lasted for 160 minutes and 120 minutes - great performance. However, the other two batteries only lasted for 60 minutes and 45 minutes - a big disappointment and not long enough for my purposes. I haven't seen this kind of inconsistency from Wasabi before.
Wasabi batteries are proven to be safe for my GH3. They provide safe even power in all weather conditions. I use my camera mainly for shooting video and I do not detect a significant difference in capacity. The Wasabi lasts just as long.
The charger is just a throw away for Wasabi yet it's better than Panasonic's charger. I don't like dragging around a detachable electric 8' cord to charge a battery. You can plug Wasabi's charger directly into the wall and it's far smaller. They also give you an automobile charger.
In summary: 1 Panasonic battery for $63 or two Wasabi batteries that are just as good, a charger that is superior to the one that came with my camera and a charging cord for an automobile for less than $30.
I like quality. If this stuff was junk, I wouldn't buy it.
Hey, we spent premium money on the camera and lenses. That doesn't mean we have to keep paying for a premium battery that isn't the only premium product out there. My car came with Goodyear tires. When they wore out, I didn't get the same tires, I bought Cooper Tires which are better and cost far less.
One question: Wasabi is a Japanese word, not Chinese. Perhaps the maker just wants the consumer to know the truth, this deal is hot as hell. Come get you some.
The Wasabi's indicator light is different from Panasonic. The LGL means charged on the Wasabi vs. the Panasonic where the LGL means it's charging. The LGL turns red on the Wasabi when charged, it just goes out on the Panasonic charger.
Which leads me to my last comment on the car charger. If you need it, you'd better be planning on one long drive. Great Idea, but these batteries take a long time to charge at 0.5A
LGL.... little green light ;)
The charger works just like all the other similar-looking aftermarket chargers. Red light means charging, green light means charged.
The price is still good and I'd buy these before buying more Panasonic batteries.
The Wasabi batteries paired with the Panasonic battery can get me through a full day of wedding videography, over 12 hours, with plenty of charge to spare. I don't even have to re-charge them while on the job. I would even say that the Wasabi batteries are superior to the OEM batteries that came with my GH2 camera.
The batteries do take a long time to charge, but who cares when you get such a long life out of them!
The accessories are great, too. A compact wall charger that is more convenient than the cord-attached Panasonic charger. You also get a car charger - a very convenient extra!
You can't go wrong with these batteries as a supplement to the GH3 original battery. You give up little battery life for a much better price!
