About the Author
Rei Toma has been drawing since childhood, but she only began drawing manga because of her graduation project in design school. When she drew a short-story manga, Help Me, Dentist, for the first time, it attracted a publisher's attention and she made her debut right away. Her magnificent art style became popular, and after she debuted as a manga artist, she became known as an illustrator for novels and video game character designs. She is also the creator of Dawn of the Arcana, available in North America from Viz Media.

Definitely not a story for the faint of heart expecting a sweet shojou romance. It is serious and sometimes cruel, but it focuses on the heroine's personal growth as she is forced to overcome nearly impossible odds in order to survive, and personally I think that kind of story is beautiful, not for the horrible pain that she experiences, but that she is able to get up and continue onwards and not let herself be defeated by these experiences. It is a story of trials and pain and growth.
The artwork is beautiful, the flow of the story so far is great, I love Subaru's determination and kind spirit. I am very eager to see how Asahi and the water dragon god change throughout the entire story.
If you'd like to compare this to something I would liken it a bit to Kamisama Hajimemashita (Hajimemashite? I can't remember, but it's otherwise known as Kamisama Kiss). Just in the way that the fox demon starts out as cold and slowly he begins to change and all. I loved that and I get the feeling I'll love this.
The Water God cares about Asahi as she cares nothing for him or his ways. He even takes her voice. He very nearly kills her with starvation if that where not bad enough when she goes back to the village and to Subaru the mother tries again to kill her by burning her with hot water! Almost to the point of death and mute the Water God comes again to her not understand her he thinks she is his "entertainment" he saves her life unknowingly.
This first book is good but not great the story of Asahi's fate in this hateful world It is very dark and uncaring. You feel so much for her fate and how much you just want for her to get out of this world before she truly gets herself killed by these horrible village people.
I like this story and I want to see the outcome of her fate!. 6 volumes are in all I cant wait to see what is Asahi's fate along with Subaru and the Water God!

I wasn't quite sure what to expect with this volume. I stopped reading Dawn of the Arcana early on, because I wasn't really enjoying it.Read more
