Product Description

Product Description

The WaterRower Classic is handcrafted from solid American Black Walnut wood, finished with danish oil. The WaterRower's patented WaterFlywheel has been specifically designed to emulate the dynamics of a boat moving though water and is unsurpassed in its simulation of the physical and physiological benefits of rowing.

Amazon.com

Rowing has long been recognized as the perfect aerobic pursuit, with naturally smooth and flowing movements that don't tax the joints but do boost the heart rate. Now you can take your rowing experience to the next level with the WaterRower Classic rowing machine. Using the same principles that govern the dynamics of a boat in water, the WaterRower Classic is outfitted with a "water flywheel" that consists of two paddles in an enclosed tank of water that provide smooth, quiet resistance, just like the paddles in an actual body of water. As a result, the machine has no moving parts that can wear out over time (even the recoil belt and pulleys don't require lubricating or maintaining). More significantly, the water tank and flywheel create a self-regulating resistance system that eliminates the need for a motor. As with real rowing, when you paddle faster, the increased drag provides more resistance. When you paddle slower, the resistance is less intense. The only limit to how fast you can row is your strength and your ability to overcome drag. And unlike conventional rowing machines, which tend to be jerky and jarring, the WaterRower Classic is remarkably smooth and fluid.

From a fitness perspective, the WaterRower Classic works 84 percent of your muscle mass, helping tone and strengthen your muscles while burning far more calories than most other aerobic machines. The exercise is also low impact, as it removes all the body weight from the ankles, knees, and hips, but still moves the limbs and joints through a full range of motion--from completely extended to completely contracted.

The WaterRower Classic is outfitted with a Series 4 performance monitor that's designed to balance technical sophistication with user-friendliness. The monitor--which includes six information and programming windows, six QuickSelection buttons, and three navigation buttons--displays your workout intensity, stroke rate, heart rate, zone bar, duration, and distance. Plus, the monitor is compatible with an optional heart rate chest strap and receiver, which helps you optimize your workout and achieve your exercise objectives.

The WaterRower Classic is handcrafted in solid American black walnut, which may vary in color from rich brown to purple/black. The black walnut was chosen due to its marvelous engineering properties, especially its ability to absorb sound and vibration, which enhances the WaterRower's quiet performance and smooth operation. Black walnut, like all woods used in the construction of the WaterRower, is a premium hardwood with incredible longevity and dimensional stability. In addition, the wood is harvested from replenishable forests and is hand finished with three coats of Danish oil to give it a deep luster and warmth.

Other details include dual rails with four corner wheels that increase seat stability and reduce the amount of sweat buildup; a frame that flips upright for handy storage; and a weight capacity of up to 1,000 pounds. The WaterRower Classic measures 84 by 21 by 22 inches (W x H x D), weighs 117 pounds (with water), and carries a one-year warranty on the frame and components (WaterRower will upgrade the warranty to five years on the frame and three years on the components with the completion of a registration form).

I checked out many models and settled on this one. I know the "Concept" models are the benchmark however the experience of rowing on them is too mechanical for me.

The WaterRower gives you the very pleasant sound of water swooshing about with each stroke and the resistence is very life-like. They have a much better performance monitor now although I use virtual racing software (NetAthlon) that makes for an incredible experience. Nothing like seeing your own boat, the oars moving in conjunction with each pull while the scenery goes by.

As for losing weight? I can't figure out why but it seems to beat running and you sure exercise more muscle groups...

1 Month Running 30 Mintues Per Day (every day): Lost 6 lbs.

1 Month Rowing 30 Mintues Per Day (every day): Lost 24 lbs.

A very solid rowing machine, excellent warranty and a pleasure to look at, also stores in a closet quite easily.

Pros:
-Very quiet. All I hear is gentle movement of water
-Very smooth. Well built and simple. I can see this lasting a very long time.
-Very easy to stand up and roll to a corner.
-Love the riser
-Makes me want to exercise.

Cons:
-Directions for assembly are not as good as should be..but figured it out. Its not rocket science but pictures instead of a few limited drawings would have taken some guesswork out of it.
-S4 Monitor needs to be backlit but I'm using it in near darkness in early AM.

Advice:
I love the riser, easy to straddle at that height. It places my head exactly same height as sitting in a desk chair so I am able to put Hulu on my 22" Mac Monitor and with wireless headphones, I have a HT like work out experience from my office at home...just stand up the rower and put in corner when not using. Simple and elegant.

I like this product very much, it was expensive but well worth it to me.

This rower was on House of Cards, and it really peaked my interest after that. When I saw the price I was hesitant to purchase it, but I called the company and they were very friendly and gave me a deal I could not refuse. Compared to the Concept2, it is much quieter and way more gorgeous. Although with the C2, you are able to compete against others online when you upload your workouts. With this you cannot do that.

I created a video on youtube called WaterRower S4 Review (clever, I know!) and did the unboxing, review and demo of the system, Check it out if you do not mind.

Pros;
- Beautiful piece of equipment, all my friends ask me about it when they see it.
- Stores upright, very nicely and unambiguous in a corner of the room.
- Light, not very difficult to lift and put away or carry with a partner.
- Simple, took me less than an hour to put together and gets-to-rowin'
- Comfortable, I am a big guy and the seat accommodates rather nicely.

Cons;
- Price, a little steep if you have to pay full price, although you get high quality equipment you will not regret.
- Computer, does not track calories, although you can expect to burn close to 1,000 in an hour.
- Screws, they tend to come loose after a few workouts, be sure to keep the hex wrench handy to tighten up.

I would recommend this product to all of my friends, you use almost 80% of your body's muscle mass during a workout and minimal impact on your joints if you have concerns about that. Truly a piece of art. A must get.

We finally purchase our WaterRower Rowing Machine today at Leisure Fitness Equipment. It was cheaper than amazon price and also had 12 months 0% interest rate. We had tried so many different models but WaterRower is the best rowing machine we tested.

First of all, we live in a small 1 bedroom apartment so size and noise were the most important factors for us. WaterRower is the quietest rowing machine we tested. Also natural water sound is very relaxing and calming. Concept 2 was very loud for our apartment and there was no way I was going to be able to use it early in the morning.

The size and height of the WaterRower is perfect for our apartment. You can easily lift and hide it in regular closet. Concept 2 is a longer and harder to lift.

The other advantage of the WaterRower is the design. It definitely does not look a sport equipment and looks like a nice furniture in the living room. I did not mind spend extra for the walnut since it looks gorgeous.

Both WaterRower and Concept 2 provides you a great, comfortable exercise. I think WaterRower has a better and more comfortable seat but both of the a lot more comfortable than any other model we tested.

Data wise WaterRower is not very strong and way behind the today's technology. Concept 2 has an amazing monitor and keep track so many different elements. However, this was not a big issue for us since you can same results with $100 health tracker watch.

Both WaterRower and Concept 2 are amazing machines and it was hard to make a decision between them. However, WaterRower is better designed for our needs and provides a very quite exercise. I will provide more details about losing weight and gaining muscle.
