OK so I must admit that when I opened the bottle to find an Elmer's Glue like substance I was a little concerned. But the fear has long since subsided and this little jar of goop has given me the freedom to create a fantastic outdoor patio. Yes I promise that it does dry clear and glossy. Not to mention cleans up nicely if you happen to have an accident.

I used it to seal a set of rice paper lamps. Before applying Mod Podge I only used the lamps for parties in an attempt to preserve them for longer. Now we have no fear and leave them up so that we may constantly enjoy the serene glow. Simply water the goop down a little and apply with a regular paint brush. After drying for about 24 hours, they turned out better than new! Granted this will not make them last forever.. but surviving on our covered patio for 8-9 months of rain, humidity and whatever else Mother Nature had to offer was a blessing!

One other trick we did was to coat a canvas painting (inside and out) with outdoor Mod Podge. I wanted to put it outside so bad but knew it would not survive. So far so good. My patio is fantastic and ready to conquer any weekend cookout with flying colors!

I have used the original gloss and matte formulas for years, and have always been very pleased with them. I love Decoupage and just about any other craft using paper. Mod Podge is a multi-purpose product, being a glue, a sealer and a finish all in one. It also dries quickly for application of multiple coats. So much simpler to only have to use one, high quality, non toxic formula for all of those needs. I have only to decide what kind of finish I want.

Now Mod Podge is even MORE flexible, as they have added new products that can be used in applications that were not appropriate for the original formulas. When I saw OUTDOOR Mod Podge, I was very excited! To be able to use an easy to clean up, non toxic, water based product on things I create for outdoors..... now THAT ROCKS!

My first application has been jewelry. I make domino pendants with collage and other elements. I have made several using the outdoor formula, and they are holding up fantastically! I chose the glossy finish of the outdoor formula, and the look great! Oh, did I mention I live in the Pacific Northwest, where it rains A LOT, I mean a WHOLE lot. I also used it to Decoupage a wooden 3 drawer box for my daughter to keep her make up in on the bathroom counter. This bathroom is very small, and she rarely remembers to turn the fan on, which is ok for my ferns, but made me think her box would need more than average protection. I made it for Christmas it looks as good as the day I made it. Very cool.

I wasn't worried, I knew I could trust Mod Podge. I have a box I collaged with Mod Podge over 20 years ago, might be closer to 30, that looks the same as it did when I made it.

I have used Outdoor Mod Podge on outdoor resin figurines, etc. and they still look like new. So I decided to try it on my faded outdoor mat. I liked the mat so I wanted to repurpose it. The mat is rubber but has a screen printed design like bricks on the top. I cleaned & dried it and then painted the bricks with DecoArt outdoor (patio) paints. I had the paints from other projects last summer but it took a LOT of paint (it soaked in) to re-do the faux brick look. Overall, it spruced up the mat nicely (see 1st photo). Then I thought I might as well seal it with Mod Podge Outdoor to really protect it. Since I've had such success with Outdoor MP before, I had not doubts. First of all, it took an entire bottle to cover the mat. I allowed the mat to dry indoors but it never really seemed to feel dry completely. It seemed to have a tackiness after 2 full days of drying in the basement on a table. But I put it outside the front door anyway. It continued to feel tacky with the sun hitting it...but I endured. Well, I found a material that it does not work well on....it does not work on rubber mats. As you can see in the photos 2,3,4 the MP came "unglued" after overnight rains last night. It looks just like it did when I first applied the MP (goes on white, dries clear). There is a BEFORE the rain photo & then the ones with the white film show AFTER the rain. The project was done a week ago so I feel it had adequate time to dry. Not so. Really disappointed. I can try "re-sealing it" with a spray sealer like mentioned on MP website...however, that's just more investment in an old used up mat. By the time I get finished buying the spray sealer, I will have almost spent what it will cost to get a new mat......so I guess I will get a new mat. Bummed.

I am an avid Pinterest browser. One day I saw where someone had used Mod Podge to glue fabric to an old pair of shoes for an instant facelift. It WORKS! Not only do I have a new pair of shoes, but they are waterproof as well. I'm going to do this to a few pair that have seen better days and have a new shoe wardrobe for the season. This will be an amazing way to have the latest in prints and colors but keep the comfy shoes.

Thanks!

For those of you who doubt, give it a try. You won't be sorry.
