I love the banter between the characters. The story grows intense when Ri discovers the existence of creatures that were invading the other land through the waterfall, and her village would be next. This novel is definitely a page-turner. The writing was smooth and I easily fell into the story. I’m keeping my eye out for book 2.
Ri is driven by emotion, for sure, which means logic sometimes takes a back seat when she makes decisions. This can be a little irritating for some readers, but it’s why I like her character. That’s not to say she isn’t strong, though. She takes charge and makes quick decisions, even if they are impulsive at times.
My only real complaint is of Bryce and Ri’s relationship. It’s a slow build up; almost too slow. I don’t mind love triangles, and the fun humor thrown in from Carter too, but I wanted to see more between Bryce and Ri. Would have loved more conversations, flirt, jokes, or playful bickering. I saw pieces of jealousy here and there, but nothing came of it. Ri relates and responds to every other character well, but something is missing between her and Bryce, so by the end, I wasn’t jumping up and down, cheering for their relationship as much as I hoped. I was actually cheering on Carter, if you can believe it. I felt his frustration, flirt, and protective nature way more than I felt anything emotionally moving from Bryce. And, I LOVED what happens in the end, as it relates to Carter.
I was on the fence about how the story turns in the end, but I’m interested to see where it goes from here.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It’s a fun fantasy for all ages, not just YA. Readability is great, with minimal to no errors, and the pace is perfect!
I was asked to read and review this advance copy before the release date.
Put The Waterfall Traveler on your to be read list. Buy it for a young adult or for yourself. But get your hands on it and enter an enchanting world.
The dialogue between the characters was smooth throughout. Very well polished. Plus there's a lot of back and forth witty lines, often with some fun flirting that always made me smile.
Carter can be a bit overconfident and not all that loyal... but weirdly, I really like him anyway.
Baxter is a cool bro. Badass warrior type, man of few words.
Mallory. Mallory is a god damn legend. Incredible, bone-chilling lines throughout the novel.
Ri and Samuel's relationship was really touching. You can tell there's a lot of love there!
I'd recommend this book to any fantasy lover, but especially those looking for a bit of romance mixed in with their magical adventure. I loved this book
'The Waterfall Traveller" is a story in a fantasy world. This world was created and maintained by three God-siblings. A girl name Ri, adopted by a guy called Samuel, spent all her childhood in her village with Samuel. They lived a life of the outcast. One fine day, Ri ventured into the wild. She didn't know what awaited her into wild. Things changed forever after that. She got separated from Samuel because she got attacked by strange wild animals. She was saved by a stranger named Bryce. Through Bryce, Ri met more people and made friends. Together they fought a danger that lurks in their world.
Wild animals with strange powers are attacking various villages in their world. It is taking a toll on human life. Ri and her friends decided to destroy that danger once and for all. Though it is a long book, but pace and storyline have made sure that reader will stick to it to the last page. Overall very nice book.
The author has developed a unique and believable world and the writing is so crisp and visual that you get lost in the creation and I can't wait to see the second installment in this series.
It doesn't matter if you like Sci Fi, Action, Romance, Adventure, or just a good character driver plot, this book has it all. I highly recommend it.
