We already have enough issues getting our toddler to eat fruits and veggies, the last thing we need is irrational fears of seeds in them. (And if this is for older kids who completely understand the humour of it and eat well, then it again missed the mark because it's very, very basic. Almost too basic for a 2-year-old.)
We love reading, and we're desperate to find more books of the Mo Willems quality, but I'm starting to lose hope.
My 2 1/2-year-old daughter read this book once, announced that it was about a crocodile eating a watermelon seed and has not touched it since. Too simple, too elementary. Artwork is cute and attractive, however, content meh. I believe she would not recommend this book.
“I don’t want to be in someone’s fruit salad” lol
What a fun book for toddlers, preschoolers, adults and anyone who enjoys a nice slab of watermelon and has a sense of humor.
It would have been better to have the character understand that swallowing a seed is OK, vs the path it took (could have been a good learning opportunity for kids).
OK, but there are better children's books.
The length is just right for bedtime reading, and the story is amusing enough for anytime/fun-time reading.
At the heart of it is a dilemma most any kid has experienced (and for which the resolution never ceases to entertain).

You can't help falling in love with this sweet crocodile and it did remind me of my childhood fear of having a plant growing inside my stomach!
The illustrations are ever so lovely, I really like the bold limited palette.
For little and big kids that may or may not like watermelon.
