I used a waterpik for years as a kid and I remember thinking it was great then. I had braces and nothing cleared junk out of my teeth/braces better than my waterpik. At some point as I grew older it fell by the wayside and I forgot all about them until our dentist recommended it over flossing. He states that flossing can drag the crud and bacteria deeper into the gums if not done properly (with a new section of floss for each tooth and not going back down after going up). He also states that his patients who use a waterpik have consistently healthier teeth, gums and mouth in general than his hard-core flossers.

We bought the adult waterpik for ourselves Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser and this one for our almost 8 year old girl. We all love them! Our daughter is much better about doing her teeth now that she has her waterpik because it's "fun". Plus her teeth/gums end up way cleaner than when she was trying to do floss and brush before.

In hindsight, I would buy this unit for myself as well over the adult unit. The reason being is that it is smaller and doesn't take up as much room on the counter. In addition, it doesn't have a lid with a compartment in it for a bunch of useless attachments (as the adult one does). The problem with that lid is it can be a hassle to get on and off because it can pop open. Also, I like the color better. It comes with stickers which, obviously, you don't have to use, so it doesn't look like a kids unit otherwise.

The one issue we've had with our daughter is that she has a hard time pressing the water chamber down tight enough on the unit for it to seal.

Our daughter has a heart condition so good oral hygiene is important for her. She has a spinning toothbrush, but her mouth is too small for us to floss her properly w/o a dental chair. She does not like to floss either. When we saw the kids waterpik and read some reviews we thought we would give it a try. After first few times of getting used to it, she loves it. First few times, I ran the wand in her mouth so she would know what to do. She likes to use it and said it makes her teeth feel clean. We noticed her gum color has changed from dark red (not a good color to have) to a dark pink (much healthier). We are still coaching her to use it on the inside of her teeth. We've only shot the walls with water a few times. It has 3 settings and she still prefers the lowest setting. She knows when I try to sneak to the second setting. To show your kids the impact of cleaning it has, be sure to have them use it after they eat popcorn and watch all the stuff that falls into the sink.

We were looking for a waterflosser that we could travel with and a friend told us about this model. It is not advertised as dual voltage, but it works in both the UK and AU/NZ with an adapter. The difference between this model and the full flosser is that it only goes to a strength of three -- more than enough for both my wife and me. Just leave the stickers off and you wouldn't know that this is a child's model. Or put them on and tell the world to f-off because you're an adult and if you want to put cool stickers on your stuff, you'll do just that.

I bought this after learning that our oldest daughter was going to need braces. Its kind of loud and may scare younger ones at first, but it gets the job done. It gets in between the metal and bands perfectly, and is great for getting in between teeth and along the gum line. Its also fun to use too!

Water Pik also offers orthodontic tips to attach to it which also work great for getting the metal of the braces clean. One of the orthodontic tips offers a brush at the top of it to help to make sure plaque removal is a breeze!

Tip: When first using the water pik, make sure to have a towel laying around. There are instructions that come with the unit that teach you how to start using this as you can't just start off using this full blast. It can be very powerful! But things can get wet, until my children knew how to use it, they sprayed water all over the place! :)

Living overseas we are always looking for dual voltage items. This product works really well. It had 3 "settings" of pressure but it changes while you change the dial so they aren't 3 hard settings. It only comes with one pic and another brushing type of pic so you will need to order additional pics for other family members. The resivoir is smaller since it is a kids model but it seems to last enough for me (35 yr. old). As mentioned at the onset of the review... this is a dual voltage unit (110-220v 50/60Hz). I called waterpik prior to purchasing to ask if they had any dual voltage units and they told me this is their only compatible model. The rep. said not to be fooled by the "kids" aspect of the model since it is still very powerful and I will attest to that.

The bottom of the unit does say 110v and mentions nothing of it's dual voltage capability but I called Waterpik again and verified that regardless of the label it is in fact dual voltage.
