For example I used one switch to wire a pair of rear facing lights on the roof rack atop our jeep to come on with the ignition on or with backup lights.
Terminals "3" both sides are power in, terminals "2" and "4" are power out to accessory, and terminals "1" and "5" are LED power and ground.
On my switch the power from the reverse lights attach to terminal "3a" and the power out to the relay comes from terminal "4a" with a jumper from "4a" to "1a" for Red LED power and terminal "1b" to ground.
I have power in from ignition to terminal "3b" and power out to relay wired to terminal "2b" with a jumper from "2b" to "5B" for Yellow LED power and "5a" to ground.
I hope this helps and I uploaded a picture (above in customer images) of the back of the switch where if you look close you can see the "a" "b" and "1" - "5" numbers.
A1: Jumper to A4
A3: Splice with factory reverse lights
A4: Jumper to A1 & B2
A5: Jumper to B3
B1: Accessory ground & jumper to B5
B2: Relay, jumper to A4 & A1
B3: Accessory power, jumper to A5
B5: Jumper to B1
Some of the jumpers are redundant and can be eliminated. For this setup you will need three power jumpers, one ground jumper and ten insulated 1/4" blade connectors of appropriate sizes. Two of these will be used as caps with no wires attached.
With this setup, the reverse lights can be controlled by either the switch or the factory reverse lights. When on the yellow ON position, the lights come on as long as accessory power is on. When in the red ON position the auxiliary reverse lights are controlled by the factory reverse lights.
Also, the amber light is on when the accessory power is on so the switch can be seen at night and the red light is used as an indicator light for when the auxiliary reverse lights are on.
It seems to be very sturdy; the action feels durable.
Just to respond to the comments in some other reviews: I didn't have any trouble wiring this switch. It's a DPDT switch, so, you know, the function of 6 of the pins is obvious. When you remember that it has 2 LEDs, the function of the other 4 pins become obvious too. The switch came with brief instructions and a simple diagram; Both were helpful. But, this switch gets wired like any DPDT switch I guess.
I installed this in my truck for foglights. I found some other switches at auto parts stores, but they were low quality compared to this one. This one feels like quality, and it's rated as waterproof.
cannot seem to find the right switch!

What a pain! The directions are not at all funny, but to call them anything but a joke would be just wrong. They give NO help at all in deciding what leads to put where. Read morePublished on February 21, 2013 by Nate
Switch is good quality, but the wiring diagram is trash and I still don't understand why you have to jump the leads to have the switch's lights work. Read morePublished on October 1, 2012 by switched
