This ripstop poncho is 100% waterproof and called ripstop because of the special weave that runs through the material. It's originally a military designed material weave that is used in many fabrics and applications.
It also allows the material to be lighter without losing any strength. A multi-function item has eyelets on the hem for use as a shelter or ground sheet, and press stud poppers on the sides allowing you to use it as a sleeping bag cover or even a poncho or basha.
The poppers allow \"sleeves\" to be formed so you can still handle equipment easily.

( 36 days for mine) . Once it got here, however, I was so pleased with the quality that the wait was worth it. It's made of a fine weave nylon parachute type material on the outside , coated with polyurethane on the inside. It's a strong material, and not likely to tear easily. The sides are open, except that you can close the sides with the metal snaps, leaving room for your arms to protrude at the shoulders if you wish. This poncho is large and roomy , and the head opening is also large . The attached hood has a drawstring around the neck. There are also other assorted drawstrings , for purposes unknown. This poncho comes in one size only, which I would call a large to XX large in men's sizes.
My old one that I've worn for years was a plastic type and camo (I use camo when out photographing birds) and it's been repaired multiple times with so much duct tape that I think now it's more camo duct tape than poncho. It wasn't too bad and it's served me well, but when I went to buy a new one I wanted the best I could find.
This was a welcomed replacement and before I even opened it I could tell by the weight that it was top notch.
I wanted camo again, but this a nice olive drab so it'll suit my purposes of blending in when I'm photographing the birds. The pictures really don't do it justice as it definitely a real army olive drab.
The material is thick. The eyelets are solid. Everything about this is quality. Even the sack it comes to store it in.
I love this.
Oh, after I got this I started reading about the woobies? These are the poncho liners that people use so I wound up buying this as well (see the photo, fits perfect):
The nice part about this combo?
If you live in a temperate tropical area like I do (Florida) you can easily get away with using this for a sleeping bag if you're back packing or camping. Also handy for a day hike if you're in a colder region and you just want a backup for your day hike in case you need to hunker down.
Another great thing about this poncho is with some paracord and some stakes or simple wood spikes you cut from tree limbs, you've got an instant emergency shelter.
I like to buy things that can serve multiple purposes and I've been camping and back packing for over 30 years and I was not disappointed on any level with this and like it.
I am also a very harsh but fair judge of products. If you're like me, you won't regret this purchase.
All in all a very solid product.
I never had a leak, and stayed nice and dry as long as I wore it. Even while hiking up a 13,000 foot volcano. It kept the wind off me so well. It jut has snaps all down the side, but they fold over themselves while your arms are at your side.
I ended up removing all the strings because they would just get caught in everything. I did keep them on me in case I needed an impromptu shelter. I also used it to wrap up wet clothes one time, and then threw it in my backpack. It did the job.
One of my favorite things was realizing that I could squat down for a pee without fear of someone walking up on me! It made such a nice little tent around me that no one would ever guess what was happening underneath.
They fold up super easily and go right back in their bag.
I was so glad to have gotten this instead of expensive rain shells that only covered my top half.
