This is a very different sort of story- and it does not fit typical classifications. It is not a romance, not a typical feel-good Christian lit, not a drama. Just a story of a damaged marriage, and the family trying to work through it. Well done!
This was not the type marriage she wanted and was just tired...............
Words are said, things happen, and, honestly, I did not think he would ever realize that a great many of the problems was himself and what he had or had not been doing for years.
---------- Worth reading
I thing the author did an excellent job bringing the reader into the story and had me praying there is a happy ending after going through so much pain!
These are real struggles that people face everyday. Husband and wife had to heal separately to even begin to be healed together.
Great job, Becky Doughty!
This book did an excellent job of showing just how easy it is to take a path in marriage that no one ever thinks they'll take. Both Jake and Nora made mistakes that were both easy to make and yet hugely detrimental not only to themselves but also to their children. Seeing the consequences of both of their choices laid out in a story like this is so valuable because it shows just how small decisions lead to big sins.
The characters were realistic and relatable, both at times likable and at others unfathomable. The plot was all too familiar, but well handled, showing the consequences of sin without glorifying it. Spiritually the story was very real. The diagnosis of Spiritual drift was spot on and while forgiveness can be given, there was no easy answer given, no quick fix offered.
A raw and real story of a marriage in turmoil and the grace that can redeem all things. Highly recommended.
I thought this was very well written though at first I didn't like the fact that the men couldn't see past sex as a means of communication; really, there are plenty of men out there who can show some restraint and not make it all about having sex to know someone intimately. Sadly, I do believe that there are many marriages with hate more the dominating emotion than love and it takes living past the emotions and making it about actions, thoughts, and feelings with God in the center of the marriage to have a truly amazing relationship with your spouse. "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you" is the foundation for the healing in this book and I felt it was done well.
This is women's fiction at its best. If you like your fiction to grapple with modern-day issues, buy this book and read it now. So very, very good and relevant. I'm looking forward to more books like this from this author.
