Watkins Glen Tour Guide Paperback – August 17, 2009
This 320-page book is a thorough, comprehensive work that covers virtually all aspects of Watkins Glen's appeal. Beginning with a geological history, the book explains the formation of the glen itself before moving into its use as a power source for the 19th century settlers, then on to its discovery as a place of special charm. The book features five specific tours that have appeal for any traveler and, it is hoped, would lure local residents to indulge in some 'touristy' activity. Perhaps the most striking feature of the book that first grabs the readers' and browsers' attention is found in the wealth of illustrations the author has collected and very effectively organized. He has included old drawings, photographs both old and contemporary as well as appropriate maps to ease the travelers' movements in and around the glen and the region. Just glancing through this book is an exciting experience that should lead a host of readers to a new adventure. --Frank Steber for the Watkins Glen Review & Express
