This was for a project were aesthetics were important, so the product/packaging failure was a big deal. I should have returned it, but being pressed for time I tried to make it work. On a side note, a few inches of this were actually useful as an outdoor circuit housing for a small lighting project so not a total loss I guess. That gets it moved up to two stars.
Hey Amazon, when you have to compromise the structural integrity of something to fit it into a box, you probably need a bigger box.
The hose itself is what I expected at 1/8 inch thick. The thinness gives this hose a tendency to kink up again if you tried to bend it too much or coil it up. So, if you need to bend the hose or coil it up without kinking, then you will need hose with thicker wall.
Finally, it stayed clear and somewhat flexible with constant water flowing inside for a few months now. Overall, I'm happy with this product for aquarium applications.
Tip for those who do purchase this. Use a heat gun to soften the hose and then manual work the kinks out one at a time. Don't over heat or the hose material will be structurally compromised and have a bulge where the hose wall is stretched too thin. Or you could cut out each kinked section and use a double hose barb fitting every 1.5' and make it look horrible, weak, and very expensive compared to most local hardware stores.
Did not have this problem the 1" vinyl hose that was purchased at the same time from Amazon. Only with the 1-1/4" hose.
