This 2009 "The Wave" is Alex's third album (Atlantic Forest from the 80's & Zenith from the 90's are his previous albums), this one recorded with the Farout Records folks, and here we have awesome music in the Brazilian Jazz realm.
It's important to mention that his daughter Sabrina Malheiros is featured here with great vocals on 5 tracks, actually one of them "Sem Pressa" is also featured in her New Morning CD, but this version is a lot better IMO. All in all, a most-have album if you collect Alex's and Azymuth's music.
Let me add the tracks (Not shown here at the Amazon page):
1. Serenity
2. Uno Esta
3. Vola
4. Sem Pressa
5. The Wave
6. Baixo Partido
7. 4 Eyed Viper
8. Corpo
9. Copa a Noite
10. Solar
11. The Wave (IG's Original Twist remix)
12. The Wave (The Plan mix)
13. Uno Esta (remix)
14. Uno Esta (IG dub)

Also, check his line up of guests for this great recording:
- Alex Malheiros / Double Bass, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Bass, Vocals, Compositions
- Sabrina Malheiros / Vocals, Executive Production
- Sidinho Moreira / Percussion (he's been playing with Azymuth since the early 80's)
- Fernando Moraes / Piano, Synthesizers
- Daniel Maunick / Recording, Production, Engineering, Mixing
- Paulo Williams / Trombone
- Jefferson Victor / Trumpet
- Tino Junior / Saxs and Flute
- Flavio Santos / Drums, Percussion

I've been a fan of Alex Malheiros and his band-mates with Azymuth for many years. When I had the opportunity to see the list of musicians that would be working with him on this album, I had to check it out. Understanding Azymuth and how fusion was (and still is) a big part of their sound, I thought I had an idea of what to expect. Being that this is still a Far Out Records release, class is pretty much guaranteed.

And I wasn't disappointed with this release. Excellent instrumentation, perspective and arrangements, as is to be expected with artists on that stellar label. The album opens up nicely with "Serenity", a tune highlighted with delightful piano and flute work. The following track is a track that will probably be more popular from the album titled "Uno Esta". It's a nice, simple more direct bossa which again features neat flute work. The title was re-interpreted later on in the album & the remixes really work for it. Maybe the highlight to me on the album was the new version of "Sem Pressa", which featured Alex's daughter, Sabrina, on vocals. I love her voice - it's wonderful & she knows how to use every facet of it's gentleness. The tune, which also has nice guitar and key work was well put together and grooves very nicely - I just wish they simplified some of the electric effects. Sabrina features on other tracks, sometimes just lending her voice as an instrument as heard in the whispy, dreamy, wavey "The Wave". "Baixo Partido" was also a nice song, though for whatever reason reminded me of Nicola Conte's take of Jazzinho's "Da Tempo Ao Tempo".

Those are only some of the terrific songs featured on this album. I'd definitey recommend checking this one out - especially if you are a fan of Azymuth or Sabrina Malheiros.
