I was disappointed that the author made comments about 12 step programs that aren't true. Anyone will tell you that's in program that the last thing anyone promises is a "wonderful life". In fact, it's quite the opposite. The steps, when worked per the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, are rigorous, emotionally painful and difficult. Here are some examples: Step 4 - Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves Step 5 - Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs. Step 6 - Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character. Step 7 - Humbly asked God to remove our shortcomings. Thousands of people have come to know God through these programs. I invite the author to read the history of AA. I think he'd be quite pleased.
