Adam Hamilton always deserves our attention when he publishes a new book. This book is excellent in its own right and should stimulate thoughtful reflection for both seekers and those mature in their faith. I suggest combining it with The Journey and 48 Hours That Changed the World as a trilogy. All of Hamilton's books are "easy reads" because his prose is straightforward and beautifully descriptive. But, every chapter includes an important faith lesson which readers can apply to their own lives. It is not in any sense "just history". It is a timely presentation of living faith. The book is a combination of anthropology, theology, history and personal witness. I hope Pastor Hamilton will have more for us in the near future.

Our church is using this book for a Lenten class lasting five weeks. It's only in its second week, but it was hard to put it down until finished. It is enhanced by the videos that accompany the book; Rev. Hamilton visits the locations in Israel where Jesus carried out his ministry. I really like Rev. Hamilton's writing style and how he adds interesting facts to Jesus' story that have not been part of what I've known previously about his life, death, and resurrection.

Another great one by Adam Hamilton. Used in conjunction with a small group discussion and corresponding DVD shows Adam in The Holy Land for start of each chapter, which is awesome. The Holy Land maps in book help ground you as you read also. Highly recommended!

My wife loves this books and won't put it down. It's one story after another from the book. This book really got her attention, as well as our pastor. He is on the second or third sermon based on what her read in this book. Guess I will have to buy another copy so that I can read it too. I did not receive a discount on this product in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. For almost all my purchases I rely on reviews before deciding whether or not I make the purchase. I tend to ignore the reviews about a product where the reviewer raves about an item without giving clear reasons for their conclusions. I likewise pay close attention to reviews that are critical of an item. Customers that are unhappy tend to have a greater motivation to leave a review than does a happy customer. Customers leaving a critical review are often writing out of frustration because they had a bad experience, and they will often point out concerns that are valid that positive reviewers may often glaze over or even ignore. With all reviews, I encourage you to read between the lines. If the review is totally generic and the words could be written for any product then I suggest that you ignore that review. I find reviews often quite valuable, so I strive to leave valuable reviews. If my review helped you in anyway, please take a second to click “Yes” this review helped me.

I read this as part of a study group, so I was fortunate to be able to see the video as well. I also read the devotional during the same time. I had previously read 24 Hours That Changed the World and loved it, so I was excited to read this. Both books are excellent reading for the Lent season, making you really consider the story of Jesus's ministry and final week. Hamilton has a very easy writing style, and never claims to know it all. He certainly can get you thinking. Isn't that the point of Lent? I appreciated the history of the time, the geology lesson so to speak that Hamilton used to clarify Jesus's ministry. It was interesting to read about the topography, customs, etc. The only reason I give this 4 instead of 5 stars is because it did not strike me as powerfully as 24 Hours did. Happy to have it though to alternate each year as my Lenten study.
