I thoroughly enjoyed this book, for the direct and yet compassionate writing style, the content, and visualizing my friend and colleague entering hospitals, working in surgery, opening her own office and walking the streets to help her patients and friends.
I am sending it to two young doctors, married and raising their child along with interning, doing a residency, and finding their place in the medical field in Newark and NYC. I am sure they will find it just as fascinating, acknowledging the changes and striving as Margaret Brisco did, for more.
This is such a book of a female physician that had to break the mold of the male-dominated medical field in a big city like Newark NJ while dealing with the social paradigms that comes along with it. You get to share deeply in the experience of the times, place and the perspective of the author.
This book is written in a different format, first person then third person in alternating chapters and written so honestly and vulnerably while cherishing the author's Italian roots all the while.
This is an easy & delightful read, but rest assured, you will be transported in time & when you're done, it'll leave a warm space in your memory..
