Love this song and can't wait for the new album. This single sounds a little like Eagles of Death Metal influenced it.

Villains... The name itself describes something menacing and, as the album art suggests, like you've got a devil on your back. When I first read about this album, with most of the information coming the week of this song's release, I got excited. Homme, for me, has never done a wrong, and, regardless of the medium or the band he's in, always has incredible taste and always puts out great art. The fact that he's chosen Boneface to once again do the album art is great, as I like the cover for this album even more than the last. That said, let's get to the actual music!

If you are familiar with Homme's previous work, to me, this song harkens back to the release of Era Vulgaris from 2007. I don't know if it's of any importance, but "The Way You Used To Do" was released just three days from the 10 year anniversary from that album. This song, produced by Mark Ronson of "Uptown Funk" fame, captures much of the same upbeat, uptempo feel of that song. Homme himself said this album would be "uptempo" and like a "panther jumping from the darkness." This song is very much like that. It goes back to his roots. People think Queens of the Stone Age were always this dark, brooding band, but that's not nearly the case. With the exception of Songs for the Dead, Rated R, and parts of a few other albums, Queens of the Stone Age show much variability in their music, as is present in this very song. Homme has always been a pusher of dance rock, but in his own way. This song has a feel most similar to a combination of "Misfit Love" from "Era Vulgaris" and "I Sat By The Ocean" from "... Like Clockwork." Is it a definite middle-ground between to two songs? No, but that's because Queens never repeat themselves. This song is a perfect example of band progression while not forgetting your roots. It's got that nasty groove that a song like "Smooth Sailing" has, but it's the next step forward. Being that this is the first song on their new album "Villains," I feel that it is likely the perfect placement for the song. It's a kick-in-the-pants, get-up-and-groove sort of song, and no one does it better while staying rock 'n roll than Queens of the Stone Age. Definitely the quality I expect from them. I've never heard a song I dislike from Queens and Homme, and this continues the trend. Long live the Queens!
