Email is still an important part of an overall marketing strategy, so how do you get a good list to work with? The author of this brisk little book identifies six primary methods:
1. Get more opt-ins at your website.
2. Gather subscribers from social media.
3. Use search and other people's websites.
4. Take action in the real world.
5. Create emails people will want to share.
6. Keep your subscribers once you get them.
For each of these divisions, there are specific tactics -- 50 in all. Start by putting a sign-up box for your emails on every page at your website, not just your homepage or your Contact page. Neely doesn't just announce that, though. She goes on to share research demonstrating the best placement on the page.
Each of the 50 tips is that simple and practical, and each is supported by research, case studies, and/or examples. Neely gives basic how-tos and usually includes information on how difficult a tactic is and what it might cost.
This book doesn't assume much tech knowledge, but there are points where a non-tech-savvy person might feel frustrated. For example, #14, "Ask people who comment on your blog to sign up for your email newsletter," recommends two WordPress plugins. One is identified as a WordPress Plugin, the other is not, and those who don't use WP for their blogs (or don't know whether they do) may not know what to do next. However, many of these items -- including moving or adding a sign-up box -- are things most businesspeople would ask their web pros to do anyway. The explanations for each tip include why you should do it and the steps or tools you'll need for it.
Overall, the tips are very accessible for small businesses. Few require a significant investment of time or money, and anyone who follows a good number of these tips should see growth in their email list. You could pick one a week through a year and get results without feeling overwhelmed, even if you're an entrepreneur doing much of the work yourself. You can also get a clear understanding of the tactics and decide which ones you want to try, then delegate them to your digital marketing team, confident that you know what they're doing.
I read this on Kindle, but I wish it were available in paper. I read it on an old second generation Kindle and on a Kindle Fire, and in both cases the charts were hard and in some cases impossible to read. They were also in different places on the two devices, which is in some cases confusing.
Nonetheless, this is a nice, practical book, certainly worth more than its modest price.

I am fortunate enough to make my living online.
90% of my income comes from email marketing.
There is no greater feeling in the world than sitting down, spending 20 minutes writing an email and having a few hundred dollars in my paypal account by the end of the day - whether I am selling a service or a digital product.
I am not saying this to brag - I am saying this to hammer home to you the importance of learning EVERYTHING that you can about building an email marketing list AS QUICKLY as you possibly can.
I know of no better way to earn a living.
Pam has put together a great book outlining a few straightforward ways to build an email list of people who are interested in buying from you. The thing I like most about this book is that it isn't complicated.
I recommend you pick this book up if you are struggling to build your very own email list.

This is just what it says it is - a list of 50 ways to grow your total email subscribers. It's full of charts and cites lots of research, but it's easy to read and doesn't waste time. It's a good mix of quick to read and specific enough to be actionable. It has wide variety of ideas, too.

Before this book I rode another good webmarketing book at a point A thought I learnt almost every thing…and finally I learnt again a lot of things with this book. I like the example picture that helps a lot to understand what are the good or bad practises.

I've just started my blog and "50 Ways To Grow Your Email Marketing List" is the right book at the right time. Pamella kicks off with the "why" of email marketing and then gives the "how" - 50 ways you can put into use right away to grow your list. She's also listed these strategies under different groups: Öptimize Opt-ins, Social Media, Online Marketing, and so on.
Quick tip: Reading the table of contents gives a good overview of the 50 strategies outlined in her book.
The only problem with Pamella's book is that you are likely to be overwhelmed because each idea is better than the previous one. :-)
The strategy I intend to follow is to implement one idea before going on to the next.
Full disclosure: I received a free copy of this book. However, this has not affected my review in any way.

A Great Basis For Project Work
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 12, 2013Verified Purchase
Whenever I read a non-fiction book, especially any concerning online marketing, the last thing I want to see is how the internet was born, the evolution of the email and how I can make $10,000 dollars an hour using these techniques.
Thankfully Pam Neely's book is a million miles away from that has so many ideas and different approaches to the same, and sometimes unsuccessful, items I had used that it really got my mind racing. I have to admit I started reading it mid evening and when I read through the entire book, making notes for myself to try, add or implement; when I thought to myself that it was time for bed it was already 1.20am! There was so many neuron triggers that I need to go through it again today and clarify what I meant with some of my thoughts and crystalise the actions I will take, which you should do with any list of ideas anyway. This book is a fantastic boost and revitalizer to even someone who has been doing these things (sometimes not so well) for a while or who knows there is more to what they are already doing. This will form the basis of my marketing development project for a good few weeks to come.
My writing area is Social Media and Self Development and in all these I recommend having a plan (see Success in a Month , How To Use Social Media in Financial Services and even Secrets of PDF, Mobi, Kindle and Other EBooks Advertising, Marketing and Promotions Resources and I can see Pam's advice and guidance complementing these entirely.
Great Book and definitely worth the 5*. My advice is - Go Buy It!

Take note of the crucial warning
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 27, 2013Verified Purchase
I started by browsing the Look Inside pages and after I read the first crucial warning about buying / renting email lists - a dangerous trap that very few business owners are aware of - I knew straight away this is a book I want to read, and more importantly, use.
It is not just about growing your email list, the author includes online marketing strategies that any business owner can use to grow their web presence as well as building a quality subscriber list.

Very informative

Much of what is in here is common sense but there are also some hidden gems. The book is well written and constructed making it easy to read. It's also very easy and practical to implement. I just read the entire book on a flight from the UK to France and now have 10pages of notes and new ideas.
