Wasabi Bytes' latest CD arrived at my mailbox this past week in a plain-brown wrapper, clearly unbefitting of its contents.

This third installment of the band's album run struck me as being much more polished and cohesive a set of songs as compared to the first two albums, both of which I also enjoyed very much. The mixing and production on We Are the Future has improved by leaps and bounds since their earliest work, without losing any of its edginess or live feel. The album's wide-ranging acoustics are best experienced in what would be considered its native environment (live, loud club atmosphere). Even the best of headphones will not do the music justice, so I advise the proper surroundings and equipment if you want a real "experience", as opposed to just listening to music.

As for the music itself, this collection seems to best embody the band's vast myriad of influences to date. There are tracks that show a range of influence from 1980's punk to early Pink Floyd. Everyone I know who has listened to the album seems to have their own interpretation regarding musical styles though, so don't let my review influence your buying decision if you are a punk or Pink Floyd hater.

Obviously, the MP3 version is the cheaper and faster of the two buying choices. I'm more of an old school, CD junkie though, so opted for the hard copy. I'll assume that the MP3 version sounds pretty much the same, only without that new CD plastic smell to go along with it.

I went to the launch party of Wasabi Bytes in Silom Place Bangkok last night. A full room was treated to a set of constantly changing themes and ideas. Set to a projected backdrop of Fritz Lang's 1927 masterpiece Metropolis, the band ripped through a lively set. Grahame's passion for his music is self evident, hunched over the keyboards he drives the tunes along accompanied by superb percussion. It was everything a launch party should be, whilst demonstrating the album and it's 13 tracks the band also remembered that this was a live set and balanced the night out accordingly. "We are the future" is the title of the album and whilst this is not my normal listening that title could well be proved right. From the slower ambient sounds of "Kiss the Sky" through to the more up tempo title track Wasabi Bytes hit the spot every time. I recommend this album to all lovers of electronic music, I am sure you will be "byten"

Here we go again with cool & better new sound, electronica at its best. I liked it from the start and played it over and over again, I'm listening to it now it's so good. This album (We Are The Future) reminds me a few cool bands I used to listen too, like Moby and Meat Beat Manifesto. The bass is so intensely good; my body wants to move to the beat. Over all with nice heart thumping bass with a creative sound, that will keep me wanting more.
