You'll be both disappointed and underwhelmed
We Happy Few is going to be the most divisive game of this generation
I had major expectation for this title
(Contrast Compulsion Games first big game is fantastic and one of the best and most underrated games of the past generation and the new generation)
I dumped 5-6hrs into this game not even sure if and when I'm going to revisit this
I wanted to love this game but, I can understand why so many people have express there hate for this particular title
We Happy Few is a very cool concept with no real identity of it's own
Combining elements of Fallout, BioShock, Zombie and the re-boot of Prey you get We Happy Few
The game feels super bloated (There's a lot of spinning plates)
Story: Not so much of a let down but, Once you get out of the first decaying village
You'll going to see where the story goes... Which isn't a bad thing but, it's lacking the heart and soul of all 3 BioShock,
and Far Cry 2-5 and Dishonoerd 1&2
The story and style are standouts but, the presentation leaves the game a little anti-climactic
Controls: so/so the game being super bloated effects the controls
The weapon combat is average (Feels like Zombie U-Zombie HD) The weapon combat in The Dead Island Series and Dying Light is close to perfect this on the other hand is "off"
Graphics: are a true mixed bag while the art style is very slick the game itself doesn't look XBoxOne X enhanced
This game doesn't look 4k in fact at times you'd think this would run on the 360/PS3
Audio: Super Impressive the DTS audio option is the best way to expierence a title like this
the sounds impact every speaker at the right time
Again home theater sound is the real VR having sound in golf a entire room adds a lot even to average games!
It's very hard to recommend this game (either rent it or wait until a major price cut)
Game play is relatively straightforward except for the introduction of the need to conform rigidly, a feat which sometimes can only be achieved through the use of mind altering substances. The need to balance taking them to fit in, with the risk of coming down from them and being found out, can really affect your ability to complete a straightforward mission. It's all really fun.
In fact this game probably would have gotten a four or five star review except for the fact that after putting twenty hours into it it shut down and when I tried to reload it it said "data corrupted" and made me start a new game.
I'm not about to start from the beginning after spending the last week and a half working on it when I have no guarantee that it won't happen again.
Maybe I'll try again in a few months.
BUGS! The game crashed 15 times. At least 8 side quests were glitched and could not be completed. 4 quick travel sites were bugged and didn't work. The journal stopped updating, then fixed itself a few missions later. Many other intermittent problems occurred (butterfly net didn't work, for example). A load screen appeared often when a character walked, sometimes twice on the same street of a village, lasting 5 seconds to almost a minute. It takes almost 3 minutes to load a new game session.
In addition to bugs, there are poor game design decisions. In an all-too-typical fetch quest, an NPC will ask you to get an item from the other side of the map. When you get there, another NPC will say she will give you the item but only if you retrieve something for her... on the other side of the map. So, you go back across the map to get the second item, back across the map to give the second item, then back across the map to the original quest giver. Four times across the map for no narrative purpose ( exacerbated by the broken fast travel sites).
The game is fairly generous with raw materials for the first character you play and very stingy with the second character you play. You can spend an hour searching for a bobby pin necessary to complete a story mission while being almost constantly nagged by the game to do repetitive tasks and severely punished (with inventory overload) if you don't do them.
It's an interesting game, and I'm glad I played it all the way through, but by the final third I skipped everything except the story missions because I wanted to deal with as few frustrations as possible.

La premisa es bastante simple, es sobre una sociedad distopica que está controlada por esta organización (o corporación) malvada, que le provee a todos sus ciudadanos un medicamento llamado JOY, que es básicamente una droga que altera el cerebro haciendo que todos los malos sentimientos se vayan, y percibas la vida “color de rosa”, es prácticamente obligatorio estar bajo el influjo de este medicamento , o si no eres considerado un “downer”. Las noticias y los medios están controlados por esta misma organización, así que si alguna noticia es remotamente triste, es censurada, igual la televisión tiene a su propio host dando mensajes positivos aprobados por la ya multi citada organización.
La premisa de la historia prometía bastante, al menos a mí me gusta mucho ese tipo de historias. Pero ultimadamente al menos conmigo, el juego fracaso en engancharme o hacer que me interesara el destino del protagonista.
El personaje principal es un tipo que trabajaba precisamente censurando las noticias de los diarios, hasta que en una de estas noticias le trae a colación un recuerdo de su infancia, cuando lo separaron de su hermano (a su hermano se lo llevan en un tren a Alemania, sin más información al respecto), y es en ese momento cuando tienes dos opciones tomar tu Joy y olvidar, o dejar de tomar tu joy y recordar. SPOILERS, si tomas tu joy el juego se termina ahí y salen los créditos, si decides no tomar tu joy inicia la “aventura” FIN DE SPOILERS.
Así que tu personaje es un Ingles promedio, que tiene una actitud bastante pedante, y entre más habla, más te convences que estás jugando con John Oliver (de Last Week Tonight).
En mi caso, no tuve ninguna misión/objetivo que se me hiciera remotamente memorable, las mecánicas de combate son malas, imponen un sistema de que solo puedes cargar un límite de cosas, pero el límite es tan bajo que te encuentras constantemente tirando cosas, haciendo la dinámica del juego lenta y fastidiosa, pasas más tiempo haciendo ‘micro managment’ que realizando alguna misión entretenida. Lo que mencionaba del consumo de JOY, el juego tiene un sistema donde mientras estas bajo el influjo de la droga, nadie nota que eres un downer, pero una vez que pasa el efecto, o si tienes una sobredosis de joy todo el pueblo se da cuenta e inicia la cacería de tu cuerpo. Esto debería ser con el fin de darte un sentimiento de que el juego también es un ‘survival’, pero entre que la duración del joy es súper poca, y que no hay un verdadero parámetro para cuando te vas a pasar de joy (para que no se acabe el efecto), esta combinación convertía la experiencia en básicamente tener que estar corriendo constantemente de un punto a otro sin posibilidad de explorar la ciudad. Aunado a esto también existe un ‘toque de queda’, así que si te miraban pasadas las 9 de la noche, nuevamente era todo el pueblo en tu contra, igual aunque estuvieras bajo el efecto del Joy, si te miraban brincar o correr, misma situación. En su defensa, estos dos últimos puntos (toque de queda, brincar y correr), existían skills para que te dejaran de afectar.
Ahora, todo lo anterior es una descripción en general del juego (lo juegues en Xbox, PC o PS4), lo que hizo mi experiencia una de las más frustrantes, por no decir terribles que he tenido con algún juego en mi vida; fueron los tiempos de carga tan tardados, se sentía como si estuviera jugando un juego del PSX con tiempos de carga tan lentos, pero está bien, que son un par de minutos, el verdadero problema es que el juego al menos en la versión de PS4 esta inestable, con bugs que van desde malos que aparecen de la nada, o que desaparecen, hasta un bug que volvió injugable el juego en un punto avanzado de la historia. Básicamente el juego ‘crasheaba’ cuando se intentaba cargar ese autosave, se ponía la pantalla de carga de la partida pasaban los 5 minutos, como que iba iniciar donde se quedó y pantalla azul con un error, fueron más de 5 intentos , hasta que tuve que resignarme a utilizar un save state de horas atrás, después de esa experiencia comencé a grabar cada 10 minutos porque lamentablemente el juego también ‘crasheaba’ aleatoriamente, y por lo que he leído los desarrolladores están informados de esto, pero no saben aun cuando tendrán disponible un parche para subsanar esa situación.
En fin, con mucha paciencia termine la campaña, pero para mi sorpresa son 3 campañas en total, la del primer personaje, la de una muchacha, y la de otro señor. Opte por no someterme a tan frustrante tarea dos veces más.
CONCLUSIÓN.
El juego prometía, tenía potencial , pero fallo en la ejecución. Con una historia insípida que se ve sesgada por la falta de inspiración (un twist que lo ves venir a kilómetros de distancia), sistemas y mecánicas más frustrantes que disfrutables, así como múltiples errores técnicos/bugs (al menos en el PS4) , me temo que en esta ocasión, We Happy Few se llevara mi calificación más severa. En una nota personal, este es el primer juego con el que tengo tantos problemas.
