The second thing I noticed was the awful cheap plastic smell. However, understanding where this toy came from, I immediately became concerned for the use of lead paint. I couldn't find any warnings on the original boxes verifying that no lead paint was being used. With how these toys smelled, I would never want to let my nephews touch them and then put their hands in their mouths. The paint job was awful. Additionally, I could see fingerprints all over the cars and controller, which I had to clean off. These cars were very cheaply made, and if you are worried about your kids putting the toy in their mouth, then do not buy this product with questionable source.
Finally, I had a chance to put batteries into the toys. I'm no frequency expert, but I did notice the frequency listed on both toys was the same "27 MHz". Again, I'm no expert in radio frequencies, but I had HOPE that the cars would work somehow as two SEPARATE remote control cars. I tried them both one by one.
There's 3 modes on the cars: "ON" -- "OFF" -- "TRY".
- OFF is self explanatory.
- ON will activate the cars, and the headlights will turn on as well.
- TRY is the same as ON, except the wheels will flash, and the cars will play LOUD noises.
--- The bus plays a happy, but annoying tune, which I have no idea where it is from.
--- The fire truck will play a siren sound, and nothing else.
I liked the music from the bus, but for two young parents, who might have received this gift since their sons wanted remote control cars, it will get annoying FAST. Thank fully, "ON" will not play loud noises.
With the cars now active, I used the remote controller, which had two buttons. "FORWARD" and "REVERSE LEFT".
- Forward works well, exactly as you would expect.
- Reverse Left is the only way to point the car in a different direction. So, you're always turning right, since you're reversing left.
--- After awhile, the reverse left only became a reverse direction on the carpet. So my fire truck would move forward and back only.
Now, the biggest problem, and the reason I had to return it. These cars had the same exact frequency, so it didn't matter which controller I used. With both cars turned on, I was moving them at the same time with one button. I'd hate it if I were a kid and my brother's controller was moving my car. The labels on the box clearly said that these cars were made to be sold as a PAIR. I didn't expect the frequencies to be the same.
I would not recommend this product to anyone who wants safe and reliable products for their children. It was cheaply made, smelled like awful plastic and questionable paint, and the frequencies were the exact same. I expect higher quality items to be advertised on Amazon, and I would hope that they were all SAFE for all kids, especially if a kid will find a way to get this toy in their mouth.
