If you do have the time, on the other hand, with a little seasoning, and quick clean up after use, this set will last you a good, long time. The metal is heavy enough to hold the heat well, while the bottom is designed to insure proper and even heat distribution.
The handles do get rather warm, and this set MUST be treated a bit like cast iron cookware in that it must be seasoned before use, cannot withstand sudden temperature changes, and may NOT be immersed in water straight off the stove. You have to be prepared to deal with the idiosyncratic nature of cast iron [which this is not], in order to enjoy this cookware set.
It does require a bit of maintenance, but all in all, this is a great set, with a nice feel and quality performance.
My one complaint is that none of the three provided lids fit the saute pans. The dutch oven lid is about a half inch too small to fit the 10" saute pan, and the 2qt saucepan lid is a little small for the 8" saute pan. I have a couple of glass lids from other 2qt saucepans, and they do fit the 8" saute pan. Those also fit other 8" fry/saute pans that I have, suggesting it is Wearever's saucepans that are nonstandard sizes. In all fairness, the manufacturer does not claim the lids have multiple uses. A little foresight during the design process, though, would have made them more functional.
Although they are non-stick, which makes clean-up a breeze, there is enough surface texture to create "fond"--those little bits of browned food left over in the bottom of the pan after browning, which are a key ingredient in making delicious sauces.
The only drawback is that you have to hand-wash them and shouldn't use them over high heat. However, I think that's a fair trade-off for the great meals I've cooked in them.
I absolutely recommend this cookware. Just treat it with care.
01/23/11: Made mistake of frequently putting Dutch oven in fridge to briefly store food cooked in it. This is the only piece of the set that started flaking, so I tossed it. Still using all the other pieces and happy with them.
06/07/11: Next time I need to buy pots & pans, I'll stick to high-quality stainless steel. Except for Dutch oven, everything else is still in pretty good shape, but I'll probably have to discard them in a few more years. Still a fairly good buy for the price. I bought set about 4 years ago.
It's annoying that the sauté pans don't have lids, though I found that I do actually have lids that fit, that used to belong to previously deceased pots or pans.
And I agree that one has to be careful with heat and with cleaning procedures, but being a cast-iron boy from way back, I don't really find that a problem.
My major gripe is that I wish Wearever's quality in these items were matched by a more complete selection, and easier access for the consumer. Brands that provide an inferior product are very easy to find and to buy from open stock, while even Amazon now sells this set only through a third party. And the similar 12" pan and nonstick stir-fry pan, which I also consider mainstays in my kitchen, appear to no longer be available at all.

Excellent physical quality and about as non-stick as it gets, but I just can't warm up :-) to this set. Handle grips are too far out, there are too many sharp edges. Read morePublished on January 1, 2008 by Bobby R. Pilkinton
