Medium Rings for Ruger 10/22 Takedown! These are the ones!

If any of you are attempting to mount a Primary Arms 6x scope too a Ruger 10/22 Takedown these are the perfect size and work very well. I bought a set of lows too and the middle of the scope would touch the rail ever so slightly. Can't have that! The closer the scope to the barrel (without touching) the better! I figure there are enough of you with 10/22 takedown's out there that might find this helpful. These are the rings to get, they fit perfectly!...the lows will not fit.

These are ok rings for cheap rings on a basic bang-around rimfire or air rifle, but I would not recommend them for serious precision shooters. I docked a couple of stars following reasons:

1) As others have indicated, they are lower than a normal "medium" ring. I put them next to another pair of medium rings and the saddle was a good couple of millimeters lower. Still worked for me since my base/rail was high enough to clear, but not likely to work for a standard height base on a 10/22 with bull barrel and a 40mm obj.

2) As the photo indicates, there was a defect in the clamp plate machine work. I had to file it manually to get a flat mounting surface. It was immediately apparent to me, and I am unsure how it passed QC checks.

Weaver has some higher-end 4 and 6-hole skeleton rings that are much more well-made [but cost 3x as much] for precision rimfires and centerfires. I would recommend ponying up and going with those instead.

Surprisingly Good Quality On These Very Inexpensive Rings

These are very nice quality rings for the money. In fact, it's difficult to imagine that such machining can be done on a product that's this inexpensive. The design is good too. With a lot of rings that are asymmetrical, with more than 180 degrees of ring coverage on top and less on the bottom, the top clips onto the scope and inevitably scratches the scope tube. The rings hide the scratches, but if you ever move the scope or sell it, the scratches are ugly. Not so with these rings. The upper rings are not a tight clip-on fit, but they clamp down nicely and secure the scope once the socket head cap screws are tightened.

Nobody is going to use these rings to mount a $2500 scope, but for the budget minded shooter, these are great rings that do all you need them to do for most applications.

I used these rings to mount a $130 Sightron scope to a $198 (new, after rebate)Thompson Center Compass rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor. For a $350 ultra budget precision rifle, these rings were perfect.

All manufacturers of scope rings need to do a better job of communicating the critical height dimension. For rings like these that mount to a Picatinny rail, the manufacturer and all retailers need to specify the distance from the top of the rail to the bottom of the rings, and it'd also be helpful to know the distance to the middle of the rings even though that can be easily calculated. It's bad enough that there are no height standards, and the height of medium rings varies greatly even between different models of rings offered by the same manufacturer, but not to tell us what the critical dimensions are is unforgivable, and we should hold their feet to the fire on this issue. I think they deliberately create confusion so they can sell us more than one set of rings. I call shenanigans!

Use thread locker and torque wrench

Bought these to use with a Crossfire II 4 - 12x40mm AO Riflescope, DEAD-HOLD BDC on Ruger 10/22 and it just barely clears the barrel which is exactly what I was hoping for.

When setting this up be sure to take your time. Once secured on rail I get the scope lined up and then get the bolts snug. Then I go through with first mount remove each screw and add a bit of blue thread locker to it. Once all the screws have that I used a Wheeler Digital Firearms Accurizing Torque Wrench to torque the screws to the proper weight and did it in an X pattern for both mounts. For the crossfire it said not to exceed 18 in-lbs I believe so I set it to 17 in-lbs to give me a little room. Granted I'm firing .22lr so no real recoil but it hasn't budged a bit since getting this all setup. I've also been able to remove the scope and re attach it and not affect aim any.

These 1 inch medium Weaver rings worked very well to mount my new Simmons 511039 3 - 9 x 32mm .22 Mag(R) Matte Black Riflescope to a Monstrum Tactical Ruger 10/22 Picatinny Rail that I already had mounted on our old Ruger 10/22.

Please Note: The 1 inch rings that are included with this Simmons Riflescope do not fit this rail because the ring saddle mounts do not open wide enough to be attached. Once I figured that out I ordered these one inch Weaver rings and now I'm all set.

Now all I have to do is zero in the Riflescope.

Way too low

These are described as fitting up to 40mm scopes, but my 32mm scope was resting on the barrel of my 10/22. Had to get high rings, and even then the 32mm scope barely cleared. I also think the 4 bands are just an annoying gimmick -- you've got twice as many bands to index and keep straight while lapping and mounting your scope. I don't see how the 4 bands, with 1 screw per side, is any improvement over 2 wide bands with 2 screws per side.

Install was pretty easy. Using with Nikon Prostaff Rimfire 3-9x40 on a Ruger American .22LR. Scope/mount combo has held zero well all year, although .22 doesn't put a lot of stress on it.

Caution though. These are medium rings and they are perfect height for this scope, but there is very little clearance above the barrel. Any larger objective diameter (even 42mm) and scope wouldn't clear barrel.

I was impressed with the quality and look of these scope rings. However, I miscalculated as I was planning on using these on a Marlin XT-22 bolt action rifle. The medium mount did not raise the scope up enough to clear the rifle bolt. I have returned the medium and ordered the high mount. Amazon's return policy is fantastic.
