In the past, I took a 3 oz lead fishing sinker and flung it up and over with some kite string, or the like. It worked most of the time, but I always worry about that lead weight cracking my skull open, even with a hardhat!
I purchased this this past week to get a line up into the broken branches. Gave it a good swing, a few tosses, and got lucky...the weight went up and over, the line was smooth as silk, and slid nicely, did not hang up on the oak bark, and then I was able to tie and pull the rigging rope right up. Yanked the branches out with my truck
The weight bag stitching looks ok, D ring if good. Line is smooth. One complaint is the mess when I tried to untangle the rope out of the bag, and straighten the twists, etc. It was a twisted, knotted mess. Eventually got it all straight, put the line into small bucket, and it was ready for use. The line is a bit stiff, but I expect it will soften with a few more tosses. The color is easy to see when there are no leaves. No idea yet if I'll see it in the leaves.
Ths supplied rope works OK, but needs some coaxing to get the weight back to ground. Next time I’ll cost the rope with Corn Starch or Talcum Powder to provide a little extra slipperiness. Seems fairly durable as the several times I missed the branch, the weight hit the ground like a missile....
I do this with my climbing ropes too so I can work out the kinks from a fresh spool or some bone head decided to coil my climbing rope like an extension cord.
I simply set up 2 chairs and lay a broom across. In the middle of the broom I have a carabiner that I pull the line through back and forth until the kinks and twists are out. Keep tension on both sides as you do this. You will have to work it back and forth a few times fyi.
Lastly, learn how to coil properly. Rope storage can mean the difference between a bird's nest or a perfect cast.
Good luck and have fun.
Not rated 5 stars because my line came damaged in the middle and the stitching on the bag looks like a child did it. If you're handy you can make this product better when It does fail...oh yeah and remember if the women don't find you handsome they will atleast find you handy

That said, its huge drawback is that the line tangles far too easily. I have not figured out a good storage method to prevent this from happening yet. Perhaps a spool of some kind would do the trick, but thus far each time I wanted to use it, I had to spend 15 minutes or so patiently untangling the line first. It's frustrating enough that, if I don't figure out a storage solution to eliminate this problem, I'll be looking for an alternative that doesn't have this issue.

I took the chance because I figured that even if the line was terrible (which it is), at least the throw bag can't be too bad (it's not too bad).
The line is very elastic. That's not what you want in throw line. It's also very thick. Which means not only is it (relatively) heavy, it also has a lot of friction over a branch, and too much drag through the air. The result is a line that doesn't fly very far, and even if you get it over the branch you want, there's too much weight and friction to allow the throw bag to pull it down the other side.
The throw bad is ok. A bit cheaply made, but ok as a backup. Definitely too light for the line supplied.
My suggestion, go with some proper line (strongly recommend notch acculine 2.2mm), and save yourself a lot of time and trouble.
