Lapping is controversial. Some say "no need for that". I say, if you want precision in your shooting, you should start with precision in your mounting. Uneven stresses on the scope tube can cause deviation with variations in temperatures and such (theoretically).
The torque driver is nice, but I have not yet used it on my scope mounts because I have not yet found DRIVER BITS that fit the screws. Thread lock in the kit keeps most of the stuff you need in a self contained kit. Sure would be nice to have CORRECT SIZE DRIVER BITS.
I give this kit a 3 because it serves it's purpose well, and I believe it should be used to mount scopes, but the driver bits do not fit my scope ring screws. I would have given it a 5 if not for the lack of DRIVER BIT sizes.
Have I mentioned DRIVER BITS yet? Even an option to special order a variety of DRIVER BITS would be helpful. I have 3 different scope and mount sets on 3 separate rifles, and none of them have screws that fit the bits in this kit.
Only giving this 4 stars because the lock tight that was on the box was a little dried up and wouldn't come out by squeezing it. (I did cut the end open and air was moving through but no fluid.
Other wise you can just take the cap off and use the extremely large brush to brush it in the very tiny bolts you will be using it on.
As for the product itself the torqe driver works great, 5 to 80 inch lbs. It has a very defined click when you reach your designated torque spec.
The levels. This is something I wanted to know but went ahead and bought it anyways. One of the levels has 2 magnets on it so you can stick it to the firearm without it falling off. The other you just lay on your scope.
I didn't use the lapping tools because my alignment was spot on.
All in all its a great product for the DIY gunsmith.
I pre-aligned after mounting with a laser boresight, and a trip to the range had me punching holes dead center on target within two small adjustments of the scope. This is not a tool for just anyone to buy to have, but if you are interested in mounting a scope properly, it is the tool set you need to do the job. And I was able to save about $40 by buying it on Amazon.
Be advised, this kit is for 1" scope tubes. You will need a different kit for 30mm scope tubes.

Excellent for mounting your scopes the right way.... Way too pricey for what's actually included in the kit. Weaver must be making some significant money off this gig.Published 24 days ago by DK072257

This is a nice kit and will do a good job for you but to me $100.00 seems pretty steep. Maybe I'm living in the past. I'd think $50.00 would be more realistic. Made in China.Published on May 8, 2014 by Amazon Customer
