Very disapointed that Weaver would apply its name and charge a premium for shoddy products made in China. The plastic case had sharp "flash" around the edges as received. When the case was opened I found one of the punches in the set was bent. Save yourself time and trouble - go to your local hardware store to buy a set of USA-made punches and a hammer for less money. The only thing you will be missing is the plastic case.

All the punches seem solid and not bent, but the hammer head literally moves from the handle.
I am still deciding if this is a deal breaker or not.
I guess I can use my real hammer if I have to hit any of the punches with greater force.
I just can't commit to spending more for a hammer and punch set to get better quality.
I already spent too much for this set that has a worthless hammer and case.
Are the punches alone worth $25?

I ordered this kit simply to replace the trigger guard on my AR-15 and to do a few other light duty modifications in the future. It works fine for that purpose. The quality of the punches are not amazing obviously at this price point, but they do the job. The punches are not labeled but it does come with an info sheet that lists sizes, so I just keep that in the case.

If I ever decided to build an AR from the ground up, I'd probably go with a better kit, but for simple upgrades you really don't want to pay a gunsmith to do, this kit will get the job done.

Made in CHINA.

I bought this for gunsmithing purposes. Mainly for sight work and removing trigger guards, etc.

The tools themselves are of slightly-above-average quality. They have worked fine for me.

The case itself is garbage and does not hold the tools very well. This seems to be the case for all Weaver items.

For the price, this is a "fair deal". You are not getting screwed, but you are not getting a wonderful value either.

It does what I need it to.

I purchased this kit to trade out my front post AR sight with a flat top gas block. The punches worked great in removing the set pins. The problem came when I went to tap the new gas block on with the nylon end of the hammer it broke after very slight use. The issue is that these are threaded heads and the threads simply sheared off in the mallet. Hoping to contact to see if I can get a replacement.

I didn't expect a top notch, high quality punch and hammer set. I am an amatuer gun guy and I figured a cheap set would be fine. The punches seemed alright but the hammer was absolute junk. The head was loose it was not even firmly attached to the handle. My first return to Amazon. Maybe I just got a bad one

Don't expect all the punches to be brass, because they are not. There is one wide punch that is brass, but the others are not. The hammer is brass on one side the other plastic. The hammer head does not fit tight to the wooden handle there is some wiggle play that is a little distracting as to use and quality in fit and finish. The punches all look more than capable of doing what would be required for working on firearms or other items that require a pin punch.

Would I recommend it, well, it did get the job accomplished that I needed and for less than what a local Smith would have charged to center a front sight. I then made use of the hammers plastic pad to center a rear sight on another firearm which is did with out any marks or mars to the slide.

For the price I would say it is a deal in a no frills kind of get the job done manner.

As for Amazon service, it couldn't have been better. Free Prime Member shipping to my door on a Sunday what else could you ask for?

I picked up a trigger spring kit for one of my pistols and this punch set was cheaper than a trip to the gunsmith. The case holds the tools nicely and the punches seem to be of adequate quality for my needs. It would be really nice if the punches were etched/labeled with the size or even color-coded. It's not a huge deal but after you have a couple laying on the bench they kind of blend together like sockets in a toolbox.

The hammer handle was really, really loose out of the box. Unlike any other hammer I've seen in my life the hole in the head is straight instead of tapered. There was no wedge or other mechanical device holding the head on the handle other than one tiny nail that was pushed through a predrilled hole in the handle. I drilled out the hole a bit to accept a small wood screw and slathered the handle with some quick-set epoxy. The handle is no longer loose.

The plastic and brass heads seemed to work well. I tapped out a half dozen roll pins hitting the punches with the brass side and there was barely a mark. I tapped in a few pins on the handle and slide with the plastic side then set them with a punch. Just a few dimples on the hammer head and not a scratch on my pistol.

Overall seems to be a pretty good deal for the price. They just need to spend a little more time on the hammer handle.
