In “The Weaver”, author B. Scott Hoadley introduces us to a cast of characters brought together by family, friendship and circumstance. This first of an anticipated five books sets the scene, introduces us to characters we care about, and then launches us off on a new adventure, just as the book ends.

The main character, Nathan, is just starting his adult life, and learning to reconcile individual choice with family obligations. In fact, the primary relationship in Nathan’s life is the one with his father, and Hoadley takes us into Nathan’s head as he navigates relations between father and son. Every action Nathan takes is in reaction to his father, or in response to what he anticipates his father’s reaction will be.

I particularly enjoyed Hoadley’s descriptions of life in Provincetown and Boston. I felt like I was there, walking, eating and shopping with Nathan.

I am eagerly looking forward to Book 2 in this series, to see what happens next with Nathan, Serena and Ben.

If you’re looking for an escape from today’s lockdown world I’d highly recommend that you give this book a try. Opening with the return of the main character from his travels after a tragic family event - what unfolds is a pacey novel of self-discovery and magic!

Once I’d started I was absolutely hooked until literally the last page. Written with great pace and great characters; along with unfolding it’s story – you can feel the setting up of deeper storylines for the books that will follow. I’m so happy that I gave this new author a chance – for the hours it took me to read I was transported to a different world. I’m now impatient to read the following books in the series… as the previous reviewer said ‘Hurry up with book 2!’ please!

When I read a fiction I really want the author to take me on a journey and immerse me - Weaver did just that... a story that unfolds over time and across times, blending the modern day world with just the right amount of magic. There was rich detail for me to build a picture of the characters and their world. The pacing of the story sets you up nicely to really get know the characters and I'm guessing thats important given this is book one of more to come.... I read this just last week while on holiday and couldn't put it down, once I got to the end I would have easily picked up Book 2 and carried on - I feel like there are loads of layers to the world the author is building up for me and so I'm really looking forward to the rest of the series.

This book was simply amazing in a single word. It is unlike anything I have ever read before and I really struggled to put it down. The portrayal of characters was fantastic - I really felt like I knew Nathan Briggs and I was constantly kept on edge as I desired to discover more about him. His well- described traits and relationships with other characters in the novel made it a very good read. The plot of the book was magical, I love fantasy books and the element of magic in this book was really appealing to me. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone, you don’t want to miss out. I cannot wait for book number 2! This is a new, promising author!
