Weber Q1200 Series Portable Gas Grill
Ready, set, on the go
Notice how sturdy the shroud feels as it opens smoothly on its hinges? See how the burners roar to life on the very first try? Delighted by how simple it is to achieve a mouthwatering meal every time? It's no accident. Weber spends countless hours perfecting the grilling systems on its gas grills, assuring easy assembly, an evenly heated cooking surface, and precision controls so you can tone things down or up to the perfect heat level for direct or indirect cooking.
Cookbox and Shroud
The cookbox houses the components of the cooking system: cooking grates, burner tubes, and the grease management system.
Made of cast aluminum, Weber's gas-grill cookboxes are durable, efficient, require minimal care and maintenance, and can withstand the heat needed to grill at any temperature. In addition, the shape of the cookbox, when combined with the shroud, allows for the proper circulation of heat around food for even cooking whether you're using direct or indirect heat.
Cookbox and Shroud

Restyled for 2014, the Weber Q 120 is now the Weber Q 1200. The grill has the same great performance and sleek styling, but adds new aesthetics that are both functional and fun, including larger grip handle and control knobs, ergonomic side handles, sturdy front and rear cradles, larger-sized fold-out side tables with greater rigidity plus the familiar Weber Q logo branded in the lid. Split grates allow for a grate/griddle cooking combination: Just replace one of the grates with the Q 1000-series compatible griddle (sold separately) and experience an unexpected way to prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner on your grill. The tall lid accommodates the grilling of small roasts and birds, while the large built-in thermometer allows you to monitor temperatures inside the grill. Durable, but lightweight, the cast-aluminum construction of the Weber Q 1200 makes this super-portable grill the perfect tailgating companion. Reliable starts are assured with the electronic ignition. Steaks, chops, burgers and dogs are easily handled, but a large variety of other foods may also be cooked at any temperatures from low to high. Just dial-in the proper heat setting by adjusting the infinite control burner valve. For grilling on-the-go, the Weber Q 1200 runs on disposable LP cylinders (not included). For at-home use an optional LP adapter hose for 20-lb. tanks is available as an accessory. May be used with Weber Portable Cart model No.6557.
Top customer reviews
When the grill sits on the 6557 Q Portable Cart, it makes a mean grilling statement on the patio, albeit a small statement. It uses 14.1 oz or 16.4 oz disposable LP canisters for fuel, which enhances its mobility, clean-up and cost efficiency. It can be hooked up to larger standard stationary propane tank with Type I connector using the Weber 6501 hose adapter accessory, which is an excellent alternative if you don't plan to frequently travel with your Q 1200. We personally hooked our Q 1200 to a standard 20 lb propane tank at home and take a 4-pack of BernzOmatic 16.4 oz LP canisters with us on the road. If you do a lot of grilling at home, hooking the Q 1200 to a standard propane tank via the Weber hose adapter kit instead of repeatedly buying disposable LP packs prove to be more economical in the long run, i.e. $13 for a 4-pack of 16.4 oz disposable LP canisters vs. $10~$15 to fill a 20 lb propane tank. You just need to fork out a ~$55 initial investment for a tank and first propane fill-up.
On a lukewarm day (75 F degrees), it takes about 8 minutes for the grill to get up to 450 F degrees, this is contingent on ambient temperature of course; the colder the ambient temperature, the longer it will take for the Q 1200 to heat up. I would say a 16.4 oz LP canister would last us an average of 4.5~5 hours of straight grilling between 350-450 F degrees and we've grilled everything from bone-in ribeye steaks to NY strip steaks, slices of thick cut pork belly, chicken (thighs, breasts, wings, small whole and spatchcocked - all skin on), carne asada flap meat, pork ribs, vegetables (tomatoes, potatoes, bell peppers, onions, asparagus, squash, zucchini, etc.), jalapeno poppers, Costco Polish beef sausages, stuffed squids and burger patties on this little mean grilling machine. Want to smoke your meat? Grab a pack of "Smoke in a Cup" by Charcoal Companion or Liquid Smoke by Colgin Companies (I prefer the former). You can pretty much grill whatever the 3-burner older brother Weber Genesis can with the Q 1200, but in smaller volume and throughput.
When removed from the foldable portable cart, the Q 1200 sits perfectly on a table top, on a camping ground or at the beach - perfect for all situations. Slap on a Weber 6558 Q Original Griddle (works great with Weber non-stick spray) and you can be searing scallops or flipping pancakes, preparing bacon to crispy perfection and grilling sausage links on this bad boy while you make yourself a cup of Joe (or tea or orange juice) in the background in anticipation for the ultimate breakfast in no time.
We originally considered purchasing a 3-burner Weber Genesis and taking it with us when we move into a single family home, but we're glad we held off. This little grill accommodates our grilling need and road tripping life style efficiently, and did I mention that it is portable? It fits in the back of our 3rd gen Prius on the Weber portable folding cart without having to fold down the rear seats. It also fits in our Prius C with the rear seats down with minimal obstruction and plenty of room for grilling ingredients and traveling cargo. It'll compliment the 3-burner Weber we'll purchase in the future. I can see the Q 1200 also being the ultimate tailgate companion.
I've grilled more food on our little grill that could and more in the one and a half month of ownership than I've ever grilled on our charcoal barrel grill/smoker by Master Forge that we've had for the past 5 years!
Pro Tip: To keep your Q 1200 in tip-top shape, I recommend using disinfecting wet wipes to wipe down the sides and lid after each grilling session once the unit is cool to the touch. Yeah, it's a lot manual labor but the grease and char that shoots out of the side vents can accumulate quickly and create a sticky and unsightly situation if left to its own device. Be sure to wipe the cart too and standard propane tank, if you have either or both. The porcelain-coated cast iron grates are easy to clean and dishwasher safe. We pop them into the dishwasher after every 10 grilling sessions. While another reviewer mentioned that she lines her grill with aluminum foil up and down, including the grill bowl, to minimize clean-up, and I defend her rights to do that, I think it's overkill. I mean it's a grill after all, it's meant to take a beating. Kind of like hard parking a sports car. After every 10 grilling sessions, do your grill a favor and scrape the lower grill bowl with a sturdy putty knife and clean the burner tube with Weber's detailing brush. Protect your investment! If you plan to secure your Q 1200 onto the Weber 6557 portable folding cart, be sure to get the Weber 6554 Premium Cover - this cover protects your Q AND your cart and shields your standard propane tank (if using one) from direct sunlight. If you intend to use the Q as a standalone griller, the Weber 6550 27" vinyl Q cover will suffice.
I recommend the following accessories to accompany your new investment: Weber 6701 basting brush, Weber 6558 Original griddle, Weber 6630 3-piece original tool set, Weber 6493 grill brush, Weber 6686 detailing brush, Weber 6415 disposable aluminum drip pan 10-pack, Weber 6554 Premium Cover (if you have a cart); Weber 6550 Q 27" vinyl cover (if using the Q standalone without cart) and Weber 6557 Q Portable folding cart.
1) Did allow roasting racks of lamb etc. worked well with top down. Not just a burgers and dogs grill.
2) NOT messy when used with a roasting tray Weber makes. Also, we did bacon ON the drive and neither they or the lamb made a mess. Grill drip try worked and interior wasn't a goop fest.
3) Stable in use and traveled well. I was able to fold in the table sides and put the add-on griddle, roasting tray, wire frame and veggie basket IN the unit. (I added a single bungie cord around it to keep the lid close if knocked over during travel.)
We had 30 mph gusts on a desert trip and had to wind break the unit with a pair of tool boxes and it came through. Normal breezes no issue.
The vinyl cover, handle light, roasting tray and griddle are all accessories. I'd WISH there was a 'chef kit' that might save a consumer a bit of $ on these --- but they are spiffy accessories. Weber's cooking methodology of indirect heat still works with this unit. Also, it can direct grill and grill mark chops/steaks too.
The grates are nonstick, which is exciting, and very easy to clean. Assembly is almost nonexistent - you snap the ignition switch and knob on and done. The sidetables are surprisingly sturdy and larger than I thought they would be. This is a solid grill, not flimsy at all, and very much comparable to a full size Weber on a smaller scale.
We purchased the following accessories, and I recommend all of them:
Grill cart - super sturdy
Adapter hose - we need BIG propane
Vinyl cover - you don't want to ruin your pretty grill
Griddle - bacon and eggs, yes please!
This is an amazing little grill and I'm kicking my own butt that I didn't buy it sooner. Make sure you get the model with the temp gauge and the side tables - they are absolutely worth it.
