Whether you're grilling over gas or charcoal, the very best way to know if your grilled food is cooked to a safe internal temperature, as well as to your preferred doneness, is to test it with an accurate thermometer. Rely on this thermometer for assurance that you've turned out perfectly grilled food every time you barbecue.
Top customer reviews
I didn't have the time or inclination to go out and buy another thermometer so I figured it was worth trying to change the battery, The battery is accessible by twisting the front part of the housing (the part with the buttons and LCD) counterclockwise in relation to the back.
As it turned out, the battery was fine but the contacts must have had a little oxidation that prevented the front part from communicating with the sensor. After gently cleaning the contacts with a soft piece of fabric, It works fine now.
Glancing at other reviews I noticed a lot of people complaining that their thermometer display started malfunctioning and sometimes displayed LL. They go on to say that they are disappointed and have to buy a new thermometer. Why? Like any other battery operated device you eventually have to replace the battery! It is a very simple task and inexpensive. The battery type is LR44 and after turning the face of the thermometer counter-clockwise you slip out the old battery and slip in the new one. The batteries are sold here on Amazon, I priced them at 2 for $1.99. A lot cheaper than a new thermometer.
I have included a photo from the user manual to illustrate opening the battery compartment and it also states the battery type as already mentioned here.
Unless I missed something in the package, there is no range of suggested cooking temperatures supplied on, or in, the packaging. I was surprised by this and checked out another brand at a local store (Thermoworks) and it did not have the information either. Perhaps it is a liability issue. I composed my own list of temperatures from referencing "the net".
This is a good basic thermometer and is priced as such. If you require more features you will have to pay more.
Pros: Fast and accurate readings, long battery life, comes with protective sleeve
Cons: The only con for anything digital is when you need it, the battery will die
Always keep an analog backup! Cheers!
