The problem is, I love food, and cooking with charcoal creates (subjectively?) better tasting food.
Woe no more! This chimney starter is incredibly easy to use to light NON instant start charcoal, and made using my old charcoal grill nearly as easy as lighting up the propane grill. The included instructions worked for me, but this is what I did:
1 - Put chimney starter on the TOP grill grate (more air flow)
2 - Fill with charcoal
3 - TIGHTLY ball up a bunch of newspaper under the charcoal
4 - Ignite said newspaper
5 - Wait for 15 minutes
It's that easy. This thing obviously gets super hot, so use some BBQ gloves or something to dump the coals into the grill once they're done.
I know I am late to the party, but this is a fantastic product. Absolutely recommended!
-No more charcoal all over hands from stacking
-The way the chimney allows air to flow, the charcoal lights in a more uniform manner. It takes less since you don't end up with those random blocks that don't light or only light halfway. It's pretty fast to be ready, too.
-We no longer use any lighter fluid, not using newspapers or ready made cubes. Do some research on the internet and you'll find hacks that will cost practially nothing (that don't require newspapers which not many of us have around anymore. PLEASE be sensible with what you try - use that common sense!
With the cost of lighter fluid, this chimney should pay for itself pretty fast in those savings alone, and using less charcoal will save money, too.
I'll update this review after we've used this more.
I was very surprised that the exact same thing was here for a good amount less.
I used it the other day and let me tell you, this thing is the stuff. I don't know why I waited so long to get one. Put some brown paper bag underneath, filled it with wood lump coal and in less than 10 minutes this thing was red hot rocking.
Don't wait. Just get it. I'm actually thinking of getting another one for those times when we go to parks and have a much larger grill.
For charcoal users who already knows... you don't rush lighting charcoal or it will give your bbq bad flavor
Its the best tool to have when starting charcoal.
How to use:
Put charcoal inside the chimney starter, don't overflow it (common sense); Then get wood or paper and burn it on top of grill or a non flammable flat location; place chimney starter on top of fire which you have just started; the fire should light your charcoal from the bottom, wait 15-20min until all your charcoal turn hot and white/grayish color; then what you do is that if you noticed the charcoal starter has two handles, use he handles using two hands to dump in control where you want the charcoal in a recommended the location such as a weber charcoal grill.
