The only problem is, of course, smaller foods can drop through the grill and onto the fire. I have purchased screens and disposable grill pans before and they worked just okay. When I saw this pan and how reasonable it was priced I had to get it.
I like the build of this pan, very heavy-duty without being too thick. The raised sides keep the food from falling off and makes the pan easy to carry. It takes a little effort to clean (I use a SOS pad) but that is to be expected.
I use a small Weber--the Q200-- and it is just big enough for cooking for 4-5 people. This grill pan fits perfectly on it but if I want to cook both meat and veggies at the same time I would need a bigger grill. I thought that I would make this little video to show the pan in action. Thank you!
You could probably use a tougher pad for cleanup. I didn't want to scratch the surface too much for fear that it would not perform as well. I even use the silicone spatula I had for my non-stick pans to flip the food. Again, I don't think the extra care is really necessary. This pan seems quite tough.
I've also sprayed it with cold water while it's still hot off the grill. Most of the residue comes right off with the steam.
It's easy to carry, doesn't warp, food doesn't stick, it's relatively easy to clean and looks like it will last forever.
I got two in order to roast a lot of cut up vegetables on my gas Weber. They are very sturdy and the handles are one piece with the base. I think they will be easier to lift off the grill with the big curved handles. In the meantime I tried roasting cubed eggplant with olive oil on a regular cookie sheet on the grill and they were fine. Will write again after trying the grill pans and see if there is a difference. Maybe I'll do a side by side comparison.
