The Webs We Weave: an absolutely gripping psychological thriller (Kindle Edition)
by Michelle Morgan
This is a tough review because this book started amazingly and I thought it would be a five. But I had some issues as it went along. Not with the writing but with the plot.
This is a "spurned wife" type of book and I like that genre..alot. But you are never sure what you are going to get and I have had this issue before in this genre, where the book holds my interest at first but then I become less interested.
Jenny's husband has left her. For a woman named..don't laugh..Helena Love. It sucks. Who likes to be left?
But then he leaves Helena too..and that leads to Helena turning up on Jenny's door step.
I thought this would be a revenge caper. You see, Hubs now has girlfriend number three and Helena wants to know about her. Just like Jenny wanted to know about Helena.
There was much to like and I did really like parts of this book but it just got so crazy. I dislike when books go the way of the reader having to suspend disbelief.. All the characters seemed out to get each other. And so you have Helena's envy and Jen's envy toward Craig and then both their envy toward each other and the new lady.
And I wish I had got to know Annabelle a bit. I just felt the whole book was these two ex wives sniping at each other and that was not really for me. I had thought..I don't know..I had thought I'd be getting something more like "The first wives club".
The book turns unexpectedly violent and:
By the end everyone is either dead or miserable. I also wanted to know whatever became of Annabelle.
So for me, I had the opposite reaction to many others. Other reviewers really liked the ending for example and I did not. I also felt we never really got to know Craig or Annabelle. I guess this was just a case of a book being very different then I'd thought it would be.
So I felt it went from a fun and snarky revenge romp to a bloody almost hostage situation type thriller and that just is not my kind of book. However, even though I am not the target audience, I encourage people who like thrillers that start with cheating and revenge to read this as they may very well enjoy this.
The story plays out like an episode of the crime show “Obsession, Dark Desires” and I was immediately caught under its spell, invested and hooked right from the get go. It is deliciously wicked and Michelle Morgan does such a great job in its execution and ends it with an almightily bang which I did not see coming!
The characters are first class and have been superbly created. They really do come to life through the pages and each play out their roles perfectly. Michelle Morgan really gets into their heads and brings to the surface acts of obsession and the lengths that one will go it to get their revenge.
The story is well paced, flows perfectly and also keeps you engaged throughout. It was so easy to be caught up in it, so make sure you start it when you have nothing else to do, as you won’t be able to tear yourself away from it! I also loved the setting in a sea side town which is always a big plus for me and enhances my reading experience.
Michelle Morgan is a new author to me and one that I am so glad popped up on my radar. If you love a psychological thriller that is gripping and keeps you on the edge of your seat, furiously flicking through the pages and keeping you up until all hours, then The Webs We Weave is definitely for you!
It was an absolute pleasure to be able to read and review The Webs We Weave which I highly recommend. I will now be eagerly awaiting to see what Michelle Morgan comes up with for her reader’s next and I will definitely be first in line to read it!
Thank you to Michelle Morgan and Bloodhound Books for allowing me to read an advanced copy of The Webs We Weave, which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

The Webs We Weave throws up plot twists I didn't see coming and had me second guessing what was next from the minute Jenny and Helena meet. Quite honestly I struggled to put the book down to get on with the mundane every day tasks as I wanted to know what might happen next.
Whilst I correctly guessed the ending I have been left with more questions and hope that maybe we will get a sequel or a parallel story from Craig's point of view (hence the 4stars as I just need to know more!)
I really hope Michelle Morgan has some answers to those questions with a follow up novel.
I absolutely loved this book! It had so many twists and turns and just when you think you know how it’ll end.... you’re thrown into an exciting, gripping twist that’ll keep you up late at night as you won’t be able to put it down!
I thoroughly recommend this book.
It was an easy read with outcomes I wasn’t expecting. There were so many different revelations and outcomes, that it had my jaw to my chest on multiple occasions! 😮
All I can say is, don’t ever expect a woman who’s life you destroyed, will be willing to help you without there being any consequences! Very big consequences for that fact 😬
I hope to see more thrillers from Michelle in the future!
