Then we have the Russian mafia. Or a street gang, depending on which page youre reading. Once, Hazel Mae is mentioned, when the writer actually means Delilah. Leaving the reader to figure out the writers mistake. Poor editing. Slow action. A Scooby Doo mystery story line. Just too goofy to be true. I guess we should be glad at least the thing was free!
She's Annamae Jessup aka Annamae Smith. He's Wynn Rafferty aka Heath Lambert.
Two strangers, both yearn for privacy, hounded by paparazzi and soon bound by their love of animals. A perfect setting, but a dangerous combination. For one is bound to get ridiculed and get doomed over her choices while the other one is destined to die if his whereabouts were publicized.
The Wedding Audition is a fast fun and light read. Imagine Annamae as one of the Kardashians (whoever is the shyest one) but picture her as the sister who wanted out of the reality show. We learn that reality TV doesn't live up to its name, because all we see are pretenses and masks and glamour. Annamae doesn't really want to be part of all this hullaballo, and when she finally gets the chance to set things straight, she gets my attention and respect. She escapes the cameras, she adopts a dog (she names it Bagel and is soo cute) and she doesn't waste time talking to people she needs the most.
On the other hand, Wynn Rafferty is a recluse, but a reasonable one. His life is at risk after witnessing the death of a boy while he was undercover. He strives to stay away from public, but everything disintegrates when he meets Annamae. His decision to lie low is threatened. And both their lives are going to be endangered.
This was quite short but the story has full impact. No need for elaborate steamy scenes, no need for extreme high-octane action scenes. Just light, romantic, engaging and sparkly kind of wedding story sure to warm your heart and get you sappy and giggly.
It touches a lot of things, but goes over them too fast. Storylines I mean. It should have been longer and the backstories more detailed :) I really want to know more about Hazel Mae!
I recommend it for adults ( sex scenes included ) who want a quick cute romance read.
To recap, Annamae Jessup was about to wed Atlanta's hometown favorite ballplayer as a part of her reality show life, but a last second cold feet had her calling a radio talk show giving relationship advice... and her voice was recognized, leading her to skip town and spend cash only to get away from it all, and to seek out the grandma, Hazel Mae, she never knew, all the way out in the tiny town of Beulah Alabama, in a beat-up Beetle and a stray dog she picked up. In search of a quiet place to stay, she ended up on an apple farm with a carriage house... and a somewhat hostile owner keeping a big secret. He's actually Wynn Lafferty, decorated undercover police officer, and he's in witness protection because he needs to put a gang out of business. The farm was rigged with a ton of sensors and cameras, because he knew he's on a hit list. The last thing he wanted was a spoiled TV princess ruining his cover... but he saw the honesty in her eyes that she despises publicity as much as he does. And they fell for each other. Unfortunately, her mom, then her dad rolled into town, and media was not far behind. And then the assassin arrived...
In such a small town, nobody noticed a "rogue gardener"? A cop can make his own witness protecting program? Who is Delailah? Is is street gang or Russian mob? The logic errors begs belief. Also, seems there were a couple changes in details and editing didn't catch all of them. The ending was also way too hurried. The book is at least, fast and easy to digest. But it's not that tasty.
