The young people meet at a very tender age and fall in love. Neither tells the other of their feelings over the ensuing years.
Magnus comes from a very poor clan so he leaves to go on the tourney circuit to win enough money to gain the right to court Amicia. The money is stolen from him on his way home while he is fighting a battle for King and Country.
He returns home to find his clan has become even more penniless only the two clans are no longer enemies and his father has married him by proxy to the Lady of his dreams. Magnus is a very prideful man and does not want to accept the Lady and her very abundant dowry.
Throw into the mix the fact that someone is trying to kill Magnus' family and his new bride.
How will Amicia overcome Magnus' prideful objections to their marriage? Will they be able to catch the person trying to kill them in time?
You will enjoy.
I was given this book as an ARC, but I also purchased it and still has the original series in paperbacks.
Lady Amicia MacLean proves a greater opponent than any Magnus had ever faced on the battlefield. She is after his heart and her weapon is scorching passion... First she must find who wants to kill her and keep the curse of ill fortune alive that has plagued the clan.
Unknown to each, they have loved each other before the marriage.
Sue-Ellen has spun another outstanding read with her brilliant mind. As always, Devorgilla's magic helps her bring this story to life. I can imagine myself right there with Magnus and Amicia in this emotional and magical thread in the tapestry of their life. Just hang me on the castle wall with the rest of them. A fabulous told story!
This book has been updated with new material and is re-publishing on Sept. 14th, 2016. I just finished the re-read and can say that it is better than ever! Sue-Ellen's stories always leave me with a full heart.
Magnus and Amicia have loved each other since they were young but circumstances have kept them apart until years later a proxy wedding to fill coffers bring them back together. Magnus returns home with his heart well hidden to find Amicia bound and determined to bring that love out. Trouble is brewing from a hidden source that endangers this woman his heart aches for and pushes him to accept what fate has had in store for them all along. This story reminded me to never give up. To always have hope and to believe. Definitely a keeper!

Lady Amicia (along with a huge dowry) is married by proxy to Sir Magnus MacKinnon. With all his former wealth now lost, and the feeling that it is his responsibility to re-build his clan to its former glory and status, he closely guards his feelings towards his new wife. The normal charming Magnus is now cold and dismissive, but Alicia wants to be part of his life, she loves him, and sets about breaking down the barriers. With danger and intrigue throughout the castle, and an ancient curse too, the story unfolds, their relationship blossoms, and the pages grip you to the very end.
Magnus and Amicia have their trials, all she wants is to be loved by the man she's wanted since whenever, so when she was married by proxy to that man, it was a dream come true and he wants to hide his feelings, because he doesn't want her to know that he's always wanted her. But because he's lost all the wealth he had accumulated on the tournament circuits when theives took it whilst he was fighting for the king, he has his pride and doesn't want her dowry.
And guess what? We still have the lovely, humorous, meddling, and plaided shoelaced grandminny Devorgilla, I say grandminny because that's how I look on her and it wouldn't be a Sue Ellen book without her.
Go grab a copy, I know you'll enjoy it, I have and I couldn't put it down.
