Sophie after her divorce she doesn't know if she can ever trust men again outside of her family. She runs a non profit for women of domestic abuse and is very good at her job. She knows tragedy and how to help move forward. She meets Max Parker and playboy but a very powerful attorney who is helping on of her women from the center. Max proves to be difficult to move away from and is beginning to get wider her skin and she his. But Max has demons from his past that he must overcome. Will Sophie help with those demons or will she walk away? Can they prove that two heads are better than one? Eva Charles does not disappoint with this story. I will definitely read more from her.
I absolutely loved Sophie and Max's story. I thought they were a perfect match.. Their playful banter was laugh out loud funny at times. Both of them have demons. I applauded Sophie for her decision to walk away until Max agreed to get help. What I also loved about their love story is that it took place over a long period of time, as in more that a few weeks. It just made everything that much more believable to me. I also adored Sophie's family. Even though they constantly tesed each other you could tell they all had a close bond.
Sophie has a huge family -- there are a lot of names to keep track of! -- four sisters, and six male cousins (the Harringtons). They're all very close, and the guys are typical protective brotherly types. They take it upon themselves to warn Sophie off Max, knowing that she's already been through heartache with her ex-husband and not wanting her to get hurt again. It's sweet, because they don't come off as overbearing or dominant, they just come off as concerned, and Sophie isn't any doormat either... she's not about to let them dissuade her from making up her own mind about Max. These supporting characters (including Max's father, who is chairman of the agency's board, and therefore works closely with Sophie) make the story a rich and satisfying one.
Everything about the story was great, but I especially liked the character of Sophie. She was truly a strong, independent woman, and she was written in such a way that these attributes were evident but I wasn't beaten over the head with them (like I am in some other romance novels).
The evolving relationship between Sophie and Max kept me turning the pages to see how their Happily Ever After would turn out. and it didn't disappoint! They experienced their share of twists and turns, but it was all worth it at the end :)
I was introduced to many wonderful and interesting characters in this book, and I can't wait to read their stories too!
All in all. This is a solid contemporary romance read, and I'm looking forward to more books in this series!
