I got this cassette tape sometime in the late ‘80s or early ‘90s, and it was my favorite. Recently, due to its age and having been played so many times over the years, the tape broke. I was really happy to find this on Amazon, and with the exception of one song (“She’ll Be Comin’ Round the Mountain”), the songs are exactly as I remember them. I don’t know how much young kids today will appreciate it, because one could argue some of the songs are dated, but I personally think they are standards that every kid should know. Even the one song in Latin that I really didn’t understand why it was included when I was younger really makes me remember my childhood fondly. It does include some Christian standards, but I was raised Christian so that never bothered me. Don’t know how I would feel about that if I was atheist or something. But overall, I’m very pleased with this purchase. The only thing I’m not 100% happy with is the new version of “She’ll Be Comin’ Round the Mountain”, because it’s nowhere near as good as the original, and I don’t understand why they re-recorded it. But beggars can’t be choosers, I guess, and that doesn’t seem like a good enough reason to not give it five stars.
We don't have a DVD player in our vehicle so we use the Wee Sing cds to entertain (and laugh and giggle) with our grandgirls when we travel with them. They are 12 and 13, but that makes it even more fun because they now make up extra verses to some of the songs. My dad was career Air Force (WWII Vet) and we moved across country )coast to coast) twice back in the day before fast food and chain hotels--and FM radio. Singing was the only thing that kept us kids sane on the 3,000 mile trek across country. I've always sung with the girls in the car, even when they were babies in car seats. My memory isn't what it used to be so having the Wee Sing cds helps me "re-remember" the words.
The original title was Wee Sing Around the Campfire. This Wee Sing collection is one of the best ones. We parents and grandparents will know most of the songs and enjoy becoming reacquainted with them. There's nothing like singing with your little ones!
