Romance and sci-fi converge in this story that features an interracial couple. Nakia Noble and Caleb Jones meet while vacation, their attraction magnetic and swift. Nakia is determined to enjoy their interlude, and leave Caleb as a pleasurable memorable interlude. Caleb can't get the smart, witty, sexy Nakia out of his mind. He decides to pursue her, convinced that they could have something lasting and genuine. Caleb is certain he can breach Nakia's long held beliefs about ethnicity, culture and society. When the two are transported to an alternate reality where their societal roles are reversed, he finally begins to understand the woman he has fallen for. Nakia learns her own lessons regarding the strength of love. I enjoyed this story courtesy of Hidden Gems. The concept is interesting, while entertaining. At times I felt the editing could have been more concise, to keep the story moving along. I would definitely read another story dealing with Caleb and Nakia, or her sisters, along with Uncle Wallace.
Although Nakia and Caleb ‘s story is one of romance, there’s so much more going on here that overshadows their attempt at forming a relationship, at least in my opinion it does. There journey to happiness take this couple through an alternate reality where they both learn to walk in each other’s shoes in the midst of fighting for their lives while trying to find there way back home. For me the lessons they were taught took precedence over them as a couple while the romance took a backseat and depending on what you’re looking for when you read this book that could be a pro or a con. The story is well written and both the hero and heroine are strong characters along with the supporting characters made for entertaining read. I just got lost in the sci-fi and racial injustices of the storyline which made me care a little less about what was going on with Nakia and Caleb and more about what was going on around them. My only other issue with the book was what I felt was an abrupt ending without out finding out how the townspeople fared once Nakia and Caleb was sent back home. Overall this was a good read and I would check out any follow up books to this one especially if it fills in the missing pieces of In the Weeds. 3.5 ⭐️.
